General Summary: Interacts directly with library users at the Childrens Services Desk, performs a variety of
clerical tasks to enhance the Childrens Services Department, promotion of services provided by the department
and the library.
2. Answers library users' light reference questions, in person and on the telephone, using materials in a
variety of formats (i.e. books, periodicals, newspapers, microfilm, indexes) this would include
Evergreen and the Internet).
3. Responsible for staffing the Childrens services desk during scheduled hours.
4. Assists with various aspects of childrens and family programming and classes.
11. Assists with the inventory and weeding of the childrens collection.
12. Responsible for restocking books on the table and above JP shelves and new books as needed.
1. Ability to use library equipment ( i.e. laminators, cash register, copy machines, multimedia projector,
etc.)
Minimum Requirements:
Skills Required:
1. Knowledge of the principles of good customer service and effective public relations as they relate to the
Childrens Services Department.
2. Interpersonal and communication skills necessary to interact and deal tactfully with the public and other
staff members with an emphasis on young people and their caregivers.
5. Broad knowledge of modern library systems, materials, services, programs and equipment and the
ability to apply that knowledge.
6. Above average computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software in a
Windows environment, along with basic Internet research capabilities
7. Keep up to date and proficient with the technology as it relates to your position

1. Normal office environment with little, if any, discomfort due to heat, dust, noise and the like.
