Recognizing Perspectives Artifacts:

At DCIS we value being able to see both sides of the story, and being willing to
acknowledge different views that may oppose your own. These four artifacts relate to
different concepts and skills that are essential when it comes to analyzing the
perspective of others.

1. This first artifact is an assignment from 9th grade english. It required me to

write a simple day in the life style Journal entry from a made up characters
perspective that is different from my own. This enabled me to think in a
completely different way, and it allowed me to be able to improve my writing
when it comes to looking at different perspectives. The key concept here was for
me to really let go of my own life experiences in order to stay in the mindset of
the character I had created. I have evolved as a creative writer during my time in
high school. I have also extended what I have learned to be able to write a
nonfiction argumentative and/or persuasive style essay that is able to
acknowledge the ideas of others who may have different viewpoints.
2. This second artifact was a quick reaction sheet that I filled out while
watching Sean Spicers speech at a press conference on January 31st. This was
a unique experience because I was still able to get the gist of what he was saying
and understand the main ideas despite the fact that I didnt comprehend or agree
with everything that he said. A skill that is essential to being able to recognize
different perspectives is to be aware of where a person is coming from or what
theyre trying to say, especially if you dont agree with them. I have become a
better evaluator of speeches and writing throughout my high school career.
3. This third artifact is a social justice poster I made last semester. Firstly, it
recognizes the perspective or idea that all people are the same and should be
seen as equal. Secondly, the fact that I chose to represent this idea in a
combination of drawings, color schemes and other icons or symbols adds an
artistic flare. I feel it was more impactful to have symbols and things to catch the
eye rather that simply writing all people are equal. I have evolved as an artist
throughout high school and am now able to get my point across in both words,
and drawings.
4. This artifact shows my understanding of a podcast called the Nature of
Diversity. I attempted to really understand the peoples views, ideas, struggles
and experiences.
