1.0 EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS USED FOR CONSTRUCTION.

1. Survey Instruments for layout setting of Piles
2. Hydraulic Piling Rig for pile boring.
3. Boring bucket for 500.
4. Steel casing of 500mm inner diameter and the length of casing will be as per soil
condition at Site.
5. Bentonite plant comprising of mixing tank, water pump, water tank,
Vertical pump, storage tank, settling tank, etc.
6. Diesel generator/power supply.
7. Fabricated steel reinforcement cage.
8. Transit Mixers and Batching Plant / RMC with Slag / OPC.
9. 250/200mm dia Tremmie pipes and concreting funnel of 1.5 to 2.0 cum capacity.
10. HM 101/320 Crane for flushing and concreting.
11. Welding machine for welding of cage laps.
12. Monkey Hammer for driving of casing.
13. Sounding chain for checking & measuring the levels of bore hole.
14. Excavator/Loader for handling of muck.
15. Tipper for muck disposal.
16. Stand by concreting equipment.

2.0 SEQUENCE OF CONSTRUCTION:

2.1 Setting out:
The position of the pile location is set out with respect to the control points and
checked by Engineers Representative by suitable pin marked on location. The
marking shall be checked and certified by client representative before boring.
1.5m deep cutting is done manually at the pile location to check for underground
utilities.

2.2 Driving of Temporary Casing:

Dry boring is done for first 3.0m before driving of casing. Then the casing is
lifted and lowered in the bore hole. Thereafter monkey hammer is used for driving
of casing to required level. Location of casing/Pile is cross-checked with reference
to guide points fixed as per 2.1.

2.3 Drilling /Boring:

Boring operation is done by hydraulic Rig. Using required size of bucket. After
completion of boring the founding level is checked with sounding chain.
Immediately after completion of boring the reinforcement cage fabricated as per
detailed drawing and approved bar bending schedule is lowered. If, due to any
reason reinforcement cage lowering is delayed beyond 2 Hrs, the bore hole is
once again cleaned by bucket and founding level is checked with sounding chain.

2.4 Reinforcement Cage Lowering:

The bar bending schedule based on approved drawing is prepared and got
approved from client. Reinforcement is cut and bent to required size and shape.
Reinforcement cage is fabricated in fabrication yard and transported to location
by trailor. Bottom cage is lowered inside the bore hole up to dowel length and the
second cage is lifted and lapped as per relevant drawing. Helical rings are tied as
per drawing and main reinforcement lap is welded. To facilitate cage lowering,
the cage is lowered up to top of casing. Further lowering of the cage, to required

cut off level will be done with the help of 4 nos. of detachable pipes 3 " dia which
are connected to the cage to the final level. These pipes are also useful in
observation of the cage during concreting (uplift of the cage). The side cover for
the reinforcement will be maintained by circular concrete cover blocks fixed to
helical of cage.

2.5 Flushing Operation:

Immediately after lowering of the cage, tremmie pipes of 250/200 mm dia of
length 1.20m to 2.0m are joined together and lowered in to the pile bore. Then
the bore hole is flushed with bentonite. During flushing contaminated bentonite is
collected in the steel tank through a flexible hose connected to the tremmie outlet
& fresh bentonite is replaced to maintain the bentonite at required level. Flushing
shall be confirmed till the density of the return mud is less than 1.20gm/cc.
Bentonite is tested as per IS 2720- Part V: 1985

Testing of Bentonite:
a) Density: - The density is measured by Hydrometer. The slurry sample is
Taken in a 1000cc cylinder and the hydrometer is inserted into this
Suspension. The calibration shown on the hydrometer directly give the
Density in gm/ml.

b) Viscosity: - The viscosity is determined by using Marsh Cone. This value

should be between 30 -40 seconds

2.6 Concreting:
Tremmie pipe of 250/200mm dia of length varying from 1.20m to2.0m are
joined together and lowered into the pile bore with Bottom clear by 300mm.
Concrete funnel 1.50 to 2.0 cum capacity is fitted on the top of the tremmie with
lid closed. The concrete with minimum slump of 150-180 poured in to funnel and
the lid is removed and concrete is allowed to flow in to the tremmie and to reach
the bottom of the pile. A min 500mm of built up is formed in the first pour. After 4
to 6 m of built up is confirmed , the tremmie is lifted by 2m however one piece of
tremmie always remains 1000mm inside the concrete. The concrete built up of
1.0m above the cut off level is confirmed as per sounding chain. The entire
concrete built up shall be recorded in the approved tremmie chart format.

2.7 Extraction of Casing:

After the concreting is over the casing is loosened. The casing is extracted slowly
with extra care with the help of crane within 1 (one) hour of last pour of concrete.
