DINOSAURS
The word dinosaur comes from the Greek language and means terrible lizard. There
were herbivore and carnivore dinosaurs. Some of the largest dinosaurs were herbivore.
To help fight meat eaters such as the Allosaurus or Spinosaurus, many plant eaters had
natural weapons at their disposal. Examples of this include the spikes on the tail of the
Stegosaurus and the three horns attached to the front of the Triceratopss head shield.
Dinosaurs are frequently featured in the media. The most famous is Michael Crichtons
1990 book Jurassic Park. The story is about cloned dinosaurs brought to life with the
help of DNA found in mosquitoes trapped in amber. After the book they made the
movie.
MY FAVOURITE DINOSAUR
My favourite dinosaur is the Barionyx. Baryonyx, means "heavy claw" and it refers to
the animal's very large claw on the first finger. The claws could measure 40
centimetres!! It was nine metres tall and it weighed from 1.3 to 1.9 tons. It had a very
long neck but it wasnt very flexible. It had longer arms than other dinosaurs. He was
really intelligent He ate fish so he was piscivorous. It had crocodrile-like jaws and had
more teeth in the upper jaw.Their teeth looked like saws. Baryonix way of hunting
consisted of remaining on the bank of the river and he trapped the fish with their claws
to finally eat them. He hunted like some bears do. He lived in the Cretacious period in
Europe and in Africa.
The Baryonix was discovered by William Walker in Northern Europe. The first thing
that they found was one of his claws and then 70% of the skeleton including the skull.
Years after the discovery, palaeontologists found another skull, teeth and some bones in
Burgos, Spain. Recently they found a bone of one of the leg in La Rioja.
More discoveries have been made recently. It is said that dinosaurs like the T- Rex
could have feathers. That would change the idea we have about dinosaurs appearance.
