Introduction:
Archeologists have uncovered some interesting artifacts. However, archeologists search for facts.
Your mission is to uncover the truth. By the end of your journey, you will begin to understand
how the past continues to echo in our society today.

Your journey will take you to discover the birth of Islam. You will explore the ancient cultures
of Africa, the vast civilizations that developed there, the early cultural advancement of China and
the age of the samurai in Japan. In addition, you will uncover how exploration and trade, as well
as scientific discoveries and new philosophies changed the course of human history.

Discovering how each society developed through religious, scientific, philosophical, and
political breakthroughs will lead you to see how the past continues to influence us today.

Your goal is to earn 20 points per lesson in the discussion board. Your post should be unique
and original to you, based on what you learned from the lesson. Single statements do not always
address the questions in full, complete thoughts with support from the lesson are recommended.
Methods on how to do this can be found here.

o A rubric has been placed directly in the course on the discussion activity for you to
view on how you will be scored. This will also be included in the Course Announcements
o Any instances of plagiarism will be scored as a 0%, and the student may not receive
another opportunity to make up these lost points
o Inappropriate posts and responses in any online discussion forum will be deleted and, if
necessary, no credit given. The instructor reserves the right to decide the appropriateness
of a post/entry

Close Reading Project

o The Close Reading Project that will be turned in for a grade on lessons 11-15

you work on this project throughout the entire unit

o No outside research is required for this project! The assignments are based off of the
reading. This means you do not cite any sources! NOTE: it is not required, but if you
would like to, please make sure you cite your sources! Failure to do so will result in the
instructors need to follow plagiarism procedures
Workbooks
Each lesson will have a workbook. This workbook is a culmination of the questions that you
answer throughout a lesson. At the end of the lesson you will see your score for the workbook.
You can redo workbooks as many times as you want...so shoot for 100%!
Checkpoints
At the end of each lesson you will take a checkpoint. Think of these checkpoints as lesson
quizzes. You can redo these checkpoints up to 3 times so focus on them and earn the highest
grade possible.
Grading and Messages
I wanted to make everyone aware of the grading requirements here at Primavera Online High
School. I have most projects graded within a 2 school day period and discussion posts are graded
within a 1 school day period. I do grade throughout the day and I try to have everything graded
as quickly as possible, but this is contingent on how much I have to grade and my other
responsibilities here at the school. I do stick to the guidelines listed above as best as possible.
As for messages, voicemails and emails you will find out that I respond to messages very
quickly, but if you message me after I leave the office then you will not get a response from me
until the next school day. Again, my office hours are Monday-Friday 8am-12pm and 2pm-
4:15pm
Standards of Conduct
Primavera makes every effort to maintain a positive learning environment where students,
families, teachers, and staff are treated with respect. Students and families are expected to
contribute to the success of all students by helping to foster and pass on our positive
environment.

Primavera embraces that students are afforded many basic rights. Students basic rights include
the right to a meaningful educational experience. While we strive to provide an online school
experience that fosters an online learning environment that is safe and that values students
viewpoints, opinions and unique needs and characteristics, students must also demonstrate a
commitment to honoring the rights of all members of our school system. To that end, students
must balance their right to an education with their responsibility for their actions, particularly
when their actions are inappropriate. Further details regarding the expectations and procedures at
Primavera, the Parent Student Handbook can be found here.
