Situation Exercise
The following passage each describe a situation that is related to what we learned about sleep
today, read through each one of them and see if you can name the situation that they are
describing.
1. Laura: I had really difficult time to fall asleep last night. I hate bedtimes because
most of the times I would just laying there and staring at the ceiling stay awake until way
past the midnight. And sometimes when situation gets worse, I dont get to sleep at all for
the entire night!! I wasnt doing anything or thinking about anything, I just simply
couldnt fall asleep.
Laura is having____________
a. Insomnia
b. Nightmare
c. Sleep walking
d. Snoring
2. Peter: Isnt sleep a waste of time? I think so. What could we do instead of
sleeping? I know what I could do. I could read more books, watch more movies or even
just hanging out with my friends. Then my brain would filled up with knowledge and my
friends would be happier. I hate feeling tired, but I wish my body and brain just didnt
need to sleep. I just love to stay up late and doing things because it just takes ages for me
to feel tired.
Peter is a(n) ____________
a. Early bird
b. Night owl
c. Nice person
d. Nightmare
3. Alicia: My roommate told me that I kept calling her name and asking her weird
questions last night after I fell asleep. She even told me that I was yelling at her in my
sleep and asking her if she stole my sandwich. But honestly, I dont remember anything
that I said and I dont even remember I said it.
Did Alicia yell at her roommate on purpose?
a. Yes, because she doesnt like her roommate
b. No, she was talking in her sleep
c. Yes, because she was hungry and want a sandwich

4. Paul: I enjoy sleeping. As matter of the fact, once I close my eyes and fall
asleep, nothing around me can wake me up. My roommate is jealous of me over that
because he sleeps really light. He can wake up to any sound around him, even to the
smallest sound -like a pencil dropping on the floor- that can still wake him up. Last night
he told me that he was up all night because of the heavy storm outside. The thunder and
the lightning pretty much woke him up every five minutes. But, I didnt really know there
was a storm during the night because I never woke up to it.
From the passage, you can imply that compared to his roommate, Paul
