342 players took the survey in 2017. Each player was required to fill out the survey in order to be
eligible to play. 55% of those who took the survey it was their first year playing in Timoteo, 29%
it was their second year, 9% their third, and 6% has been with Timoteo for four years or more.
The following are the results from that survey.

Racial Make up:

49% Hispanic, 44% Black/ African American, 5% Bi-
racial, 2% other.

Zip codes: There were 29 zip codes represented in

Timoteo: Top zip codes represented were:
19134 31%, 19124 17%, 19120 10%, 19140 10%. O the
29 zip codes 24 of them were in Philly, 4 of them the
suburbs of Philly and one was from New Jersey.
19134 surpassed 19124 this year as the zip code with the
most players. This is the result of adding two new teams
to Timoteo with players predominantly from this area.

Academia
Grade
Our league is for those 13-18, but the majority of our league continues to be in high school.
Here is the breakdown per grade:
Seniors 24%, Juniors 31%, Sophomores 20%, Freshmen 13%, 8th
graders 4%, 7th graders 5%, Enrolled in College 1%, HS Grads 3%,
Not in school <1%
There are a lot more seniors playing in the league compared to last
year (18% in 2016). Juniors continue to make up the largest
percentage. We have many players stop playing as Seniors because
of work.

Schools
There are 73 schools represented in Timoteo in 2017. Our Top
schools are:
Olney (17 players), Esperanza (14 players), Northeast, Community
Academy of Philadelphia (13 players each), Frankford and Franklin
Towne HS (9 players each), Delaware Valley, Edison, Kensington Capa and Kensington HS (all
have 8 players). In 2016 we had 68 school represented. 2% of the league was already enrolled in
college, 2% were working on their GED, and 1 % was out of school and not working on their
GED.

Expelled

and <1% expelled several times. There were fewer students (4%) expelled then in 2016!

Tardiness
10% of our players are late to school often (down from 15% in 2016). 89% of the league is
rarely late if at all.

College
64% of the league said that their parents
did not go to college, or they didn’t know
if they had gone to college. 12% of our
players parents went to college but did
not graduate, while 24% said their
parents graduated from college. These
statistics show that the majority of our
players do not have parents that have
completed college, thus it may be
important to provide resources to our
players to help them make college a reality.
42% of our league stated they would like
to go on college visits, 9% stated they
would like assistance in filling out forms
for college, and 8% stated they needed help preparing for the SATs.

90% of our players stated they would like to go to college. 8% said they were unsure. 2%
said they had no plans of going on to college.

Homework
65% of the league said they complete their homework
on time (this is up from 44% of the league polled in 2013).
29% of the league stated they complete their homework
on time some of the time. 4% of the league said they
rarely if ever complete their homework on time. Only
5% of the league stated they needed help with
homework. It seems that many youth do not see the
connection of wanting to get into college (90%) and
actually completing their homework on time (only 65%).
This is a gap that needs to be addressed.

Legal Issues:
91% of our players have never been arrested (89% in 2016). 8% have been arrested one time
and 1% have been arrested more than once. Only 3% of our league had contact with the
police, probation or parole officer in the last month.

37% a couple of them, 37% have never fought. 5% of our league had been in a fight within
the last month.

Church

once throughout the year. 20% have gone to church once, and 31% of the league did not go
to church at all within the past year.

This year we asked an

additional “church” question to
see if whether or not they
would be interested in church
or a bible study. 32% said yes
they would like to go to
church or a bible study, 27%
said they would like more
information on going to
church or a bible study, and
41% said they were not
interested. I have a feeling
that if more church folks would
come to the field and initiate
relationships with our players, you would find many of them willing to go to church. 36% of the
league stated that one of the things they like most about Timoteo was the prayer and verses
integrated into the league.
