Homophones fall under the umbrella of the term homonyms. Homonyms is a broad term for words that sound or
are spelled the same but have different meanings. What Are Homophones?

differently as well. They usually occur in groups of two but sometimes they can be three or four in a group. Its

INTRODUCTION:
Begin lesson with a short skit and tell the following joke: A horse walked into a McDonalds and
waited in line to place his order. When his turn finally came, he said (in a soft,
raspy voice), "I'll have a Hamburger Happy Meal with a Coke, please." The woman
behind the counter frowned and replied, "Sir, you'll have to speak up. I can't hear
you." The horse looked at her and repeated (in the same soft, raspy voice), "I'll
have a Hamburger Happy Meal with a Coke, please." The woman frowned again
and looked rather aggravated. She said sharply, "Sir, I still can't hear you. There
are lots of people waiting in line. You'll have to speak up or leave the restaurant."
The horse smiled understandingly and replied (in the same soft, raspy voice), "I'm
sorry. You've got to excuse me. I'm just a little hoarse."
with my own little twist to it.
After telling the joke, I ask students to determine which two words in the joke sound alike and explain that it
is a Homophone.

CONCLUSION: I will reiterate what a homophone is and have the students participate in my final class activity
where students show understanding of homophones- the activity being where Homo the horse is curious if two
words are homophones. Students must find name and place under Yes or No category to cast this as their answer.
Evaluation of My Lesson:
First and foremost, I successfully achieved my objectives of the lesson. The students were able to gain a
sense and understanding of homophones and what they are, which is a huge high five towards myself. They knew
the definition of a homophone, were able to identify common homophones as well as use these homophones
correctly in sentences-which were my objectives. Although I was engulfed with nervousness, I went in teaching with
confidence and setting the mood of my classroom and what I had taught with my bubbly personality. My voice was
clear and at an appropriate tone and pitch, therefore I gained respect, classroom management and class attentiveness.
Certain aspects of my lesson were a huge success, my introduction being one of them! I enjoyed doing it as well. The
whole homo the horse calling my phone and telling me a joke jest was extremely creative and fun to introduce the
topic of my lesson to my students. I was also successful in my creativity, seeing that I am a creative person, my
activities too were amusing and fun to engage in and my use of visual aids too brought about more understanding of
On the other hand, I felt as though, I didnt show much attention to the students as they completed certain
assignments. I felt I should have walked around and asked who needed help, I failed to do so. My use of questioning
wasnt up to par as well. In these two areas, I feel I must improve-showing more involvement within the students and
full use of questioning. To conclude, honestly I think the lesson was good, but not great. However, this was my first
experience in actually getting the chance to teach, and although the lesson wasnt as special as I wanted it to be, this
