Workplace Reflection
My Chosen major will be Human Resources Management. I have chosen this

subject to be my major, because within my current role I have been exposed to

elements of Human Resources such as training and development and recruitment

and this is what motivates me to come to work every day. Taking the opportunity to

reflect on the interviews of Jennifer McDonald Recruitment Advisor or Jupiters Gold

Coast and Robyn Baker Wright, People and Culture Manager of SSKB, this has only

solidified my chosen major and I will detail these below. .

1. Training and Developing both interviews speak about training and

developing their managers in order to better equip them to able to

effectively do their job. As someone who is a people manager in their

current role and also someone who has had the opportunity to learn new

skills in the past, I am strong advocate for developing leaders skills in order

to be better communicators and lead their people.

2. Challenges. Both Jennifer and Robyn talk about the challenges in their role

within Recruitment and People and Culture Manager. Jennifer talks of what

she feels are her challenges such as harassment issues and performance

management. These are two challenges that I have already had exposure

too, and while it is definitely a challenge within my current role, this would

be something that I would be able to manage through learnt skills. Robyn

speaks of challenges in her role being awkward interviews, ensuring the

people that she is interviewing feel comfortable and are able to be

themselves. Within my current role I have already had some exposure to

interviews, and have always received positive feedback that when I have

interviewed frontline employees Ive always made them feel comfortable.

Also, Robyn talks about questioning techniques used within those

interviews. The questions are known as probing questions, and is a skill I

already have, so therefore I would be able to coordinate an interview to

ensure I was able to receive all the information required to make an

informed decision on whether or not the person is the right fit for the

company.

3. What really resonated with me during the interview with Robyn is that what

she finds most enjoyable in the role, is making a difference in someone's

life, by offering them that job. I am very passionate about making my

workplace an enjoyable place to work because after all, we spend 40 - 50

hours a week there. As someone who is heavily involved in her

department's Reward and Recognition programme, I would love to really

make an impact on a whole organisation rather than just a department.

My next steps from here will be continue to connect with professionals in the

Human Resources industry. Since beginning this Work and Employability course

I have applied for roles in the hopes that the lack of university education may

only be preferred. Also connecting with Human Resource Managers in other

organisations in the hopes that once my studies have come the a Bachelor of

Business I'll successfully transition into a role of Human Resources.
