Frequently Asked Questions and General Information

General Information: Al-Fatiha Foundation will host three spiritual retreats in 2003 in the following cities: New York City (August 1 -
3), and Los Angeles (October 24 - 26). The retreats are open to all Muslims who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, or
questioning, as well as those exploring their sexual orientation or gender identity. It is also open to their partners/spouses, families, friends, and
allies. The retreats will begin on Friday evening and end on Sunday afternoon (see tentative program of events below). There will be a social
/ potluck with local community groups and the local Al-Fatiha chapter on Friday evening. On Saturday evening, there will be a community
reception and fundraiser. Participants to the retreats are expected from across the United States. The retreats are also open to international
participants.

Venue and Transportation: The venues of the retreats will be in downtown locations, and will be accessible by public transportation. The
sites of the retreats are not being disclosed due to safety and security reasons (see safety and security below). Detailed information will be
mailed to you upon receipt of registration form and registration fees. All retreat venues are accessible by airplane, train and bus. You are
responsible for making your own travel accommodations.

Registration: All participants must register prior to the conference. Registration deadlines are as follows: New York City July 18,
2003; Los Angeles October 3, 2003. Details about the location of the conference will be sent via postal mail after we have processed your
registration. Please note that there will be NO registration on site. You must send in a completed registration form and payment in order to
ensure proper registration. Upon arrival to the retreat, you will also be asked for picture identification for safety and security reasons.

Travel and Registration Subsidies / Scholarships: Al-Fatiha Foundation has a very limited number of travel subsidies. These subsidies
are only to help you with travel expenses and are not full travel scholarships. We also have a limited number of registration scholarships. To
apply for either a travel subsidy or a registration waiver / scholarship, please write a personal statement that is no longer than one page about
why you would like to attend this conference and what you hope to gain by attending. Also please explain any unusual financial circumstances
that you may have. Enclose a completed registration form and your personal statement and mail to Al-Fatiha Foundation. The following are
deadlines to receive this information: New York City July 1, 2003, Los Angeles September 15, 2003. You will be notified of our decision
two weeks after each deadline, to give you enough time to make your travel arrangements. Travel subsidies will be mailed one month prior to
each retreat. Registration scholarship recipients are also encouraged to register for community housing (see below).

Accommodation & Housing: All participants are encouraged to make their own arrangements for accommodation during their stay at each
retreat. A list of hotels, bed and breakfasts, and youth hostels can be found at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/al-fatiha-news/files under
Retreat Housing Options. There is limited community housing available with local Al-Fatiha chapter members and their supporters. For
more information about community housing please contact Al-Fatiha by email at gaymuslims@yahoo.com at least one month prior to each
retreat.

Food: Unfortunately registration fees do not include meals.

Security and Safety: Due to security and safety concerns, the exact location of the retreats will not be publicly announced. Detailed
information about the retreat venue and directions to the conference will be sent by postal mail only. Additionally all participants will be
expected to wear nametags at all times during the workshops and discussion sessions. Please also note that there may be security present at the
retreat and that the local police department will be contacted and will be present if security becomes a concern. Organizers of the retreat and
members of Al-Fatiha realize the sensitive nature of this retreat, and these precautions are being made only to ensure the safety and comfort
of all our participants. Should you have any questions or concerns regarding security please feel free to contact us. We have not had any
problems in the past and dont anticipate any problems, inshallah.

Media and Press: All media and/or press are requested to notify retreat organizers at least one month prior to each retreat if they plan on
attending the conference. The same guidelines and rules that apply to participants will also apply to any members of the media and/or press.
Members of the media and press must wear a visible name-tag indicating that they are a media/press person at ALL times during the duration
of the retreat. Photographs CANNOT be taken inside any workshop or session. However the community reception and can be photographed.
Al-Fatiha members and retreat organizers will be available for interviews.
