iPhone 5s includes a lithium-ion rechargeable battery. Avoid exposure to heat and open flame. Do not puncture, deform, crush, or incinerate as
exposure to ingredients contained within or their combustion products could be harmful. During a fire, the battery may emit irritating and toxic
gases and aerosols may be generated by thermal decomposition and combustion.
Wa rning
If the battery is dented, punctured, or otherwise damaged, do not remove battery from iPhone. Reassemble and replace
whole unit.
Do not reuse or reinstall a battery after it has been removed from iPhone.
For more information regarding battery safety, refer to the following Apple Support article:

The front cover of iPhone 5s is made of glass. The back of iPhone 5s is made of anodized aluminum with glass inlays along the top and
bottom. These glass components could break if iPhone 5s is dropped on a hard surface, receives a substantial impact, or is crushed, bent, or
deformed. If the glass chips or cracks, do not attempt to remove the broken glass. Follow these steps:

Theres fast. And then theres A7 fast. The new A7 chip gives you CPU and
graphics performance up to 2x faster than the A6 chip. Even more impressive,
A7 makes iPhone 5s the first 64-bit smartphone in the world thats
desktop-class architecture in a superslim phone. And because iOS 7 was built
specifically for 64-bit, its uniquely designed to take advantage of the A7
chip.
In the Box
External buttons and controls are the same as iPhone 5 with the exception of Touch ID.
T ouch ID
Touch ID is built right into the iPhone 5s Home button. A Passcode is required
with Touch ID and can be used in conjunction with fingerprint authentication.
Set up of Touch ID can occur during initial device set-up. Additionally, the
customer can set up Touch ID from Settings at any time. The customer can
register any of their fingers to secure their device, with up to 5 different saved
fingerprints. When creating a repair, have the customer disable Touch ID.
iOS 7
The world's most advanced mobile operating system is included on iPhone 5s.
Se ria l Numb e r
iPhone models can be identified by model number, which is engraved on the back case.
All iPhone models have a unique configuration code (the last 3-4 characters of the serial number), specific for each model type, color, and
capacity. The configuration code (listed in the table below) is the best way to precisely determine which model is being serviced.

With iPhone 5s, getting into your phone is faster and easier with Touch ID a new fingerprint identity sensor.
Put your finger on the Home button, and just like that your iPhone unlocks. Its a convenient and highly secure way to access your phone. Your
fingerprint can also approve purchases from the iTunes Store, App Store, and iBooks Store, so you dont have to enter your password. Touch ID
is capable of 360-degree readability which means no matter what its orientation, your iPhone reads your fingerprint and knows who you are.
Se tting up T ouch ID
You can set up Touch ID in iOS Setup Assistant or by tapping Se ttings >
G e ne ra l > P a sscod e & Finge rp rint > Finge rp rints. In order to use
Touch ID, you must first setup a passcode. Your passcode is used for
additional security validation and to authorize enrolling new fingerprints.
1. Ensure the Home button and your finger is clean and dry.
2. Hold the iPhone as you normally would when touching the Home button.
3. Touch your finger to the Home button and hold it there until you feel a
quick vibration or you are asked to lift your finger.?
4. Continue to touch and lift your finger slowly, making small adjustments to
the position of your finger each time.
5. Once the initial scanning is complete, youll be asked to adjust your grip
in order to capture the edges of your fingerprint.
6. Hold the phone as you normally would when unlocking it, touching the
adjacent outer areas of your fingertip, instead of the center portion you
initially scanned.
If you have trouble enrolling one finger, try enrolling a different finger. As you
use it, Touch ID will continue to learn and improve recognition of your
fingerprint over time.
Using Touch ID sets your Require Passcode setting to Immediately. You still have the option of entering your passcode
simply by sliding to unlock.
If you unintentionally slide and reach the passcode entry screen, you can still use Touch ID to unlock your iPhone (as long as
there have not been 5 unsuccessful attempts to recognize your finger).
Touch ID only works for fingers that you enroll. You can enroll up to five fingers using Se ttings > G e ne ra l > P a sscod e &
Finge rp rint > Finge rp rints.
Note : For each additional finger that you enroll, it may take slightly longer for Touch ID to recognize your finger when you use
it.
Press the Home button once to wake iPhone 5s, and keep your finger lightly on the Home button.
Press the Sleep/Wake button once to wake iPhone 5s, and then touch your finger lightly on the Home button.
If Touch ID doesnt recognize your finger, youll be prompted to try again. After 3 attempts, youll be given the option of entering your
passcode. After two more tries, you will be required to enter your passcode. In addition, you will be required to enter your passcode to unlock
your iPhone in these conditions:
Restarting your iPhone 5s
48 hours pass from the last time you unlocked your iPhone
Enrolling a new fingerprint after deleting all existing fingerprints
If you havent already, ensure that iTunes & App Store is enabled in Se ttings > G e ne ra l > P a sscod e & Finge rp rint > Finge rp rints. If
you cannot enable this setting, ensure that your Apple ID is signed in under Se ttings > iT une s & Ap p Store .
Your fingerprint will eliminate the need to enter a password for your Apple ID. With this added convenience, there is no need for 15-minute
window for not entering passwords between purchases and you will be prompted to scan your fingerprint for each purchase.
If Touch ID does not recognize your finger, youll be prompted to try again. After 5 failed attempts, youll be given the option of entering your
Apple ID password. In addition, you will be required to enter your Apple ID password after:
Set up fingerprint scanning for basic device authentication, i.e., access the Home screen from the Lock screen.
Authenticate into the iTunes store with Apple ID and Password.
Touch ID will then authenticate into the iTunes store after that.
The Apple Store user interface (UI) will tell the user what to do at each step.
Note : Touch ID cannot be used for purchases if Require Password in Se ttings > G e ne ra l > R e strictions is set to
Immediately.
If you have more than one fingerprint enrolled, you can touch a finger to the Home button to see the fingerprint in the list it is linked too. If your
finger matches, that finger in the list will be briefly highlighted.
T roub le shooting T ouch ID
1. Ensure your fingers and the Home button are clean and dry. Moisture, lotions, sweat, oils, cuts, or dry skin may affect fingerprint
recognition. Certain activities can also temporarily affect fingerprint recognition, including exercising, showering, swimming, cooking, or other
conditions or changes that affect your fingerprint
?Note : Cover the Home button completely. Dont tap too quickly, dont press down hard, and dont move your finger while Touch ID is scanning.
2. Tap Se ttings > G e ne ra l > P a sscod e & Finge rp rint > Finge rp rints and verify:
3. If one finger isnt working, tap Edit in Se ttings > G e ne ra l > P a sscod e & Finge rp rint > Finge rp rints > E d it to delete and then re-
enroll the finger.
4. If that finger still isnt working, try enrolling a different finger.
5. If you are unable to enroll any of your fingers, take your iPhone 5s to an Apple Retail Store, Apple Authorized Service Provider, or contact
AppleCare for further assistance.
When troubleshooting Home Button/Touch ID issues, isolate the issue to either specific fingers or the Touch ID sensor on the device by trying the
following:
Restart the iPhone 5s Ensure the customer's finger and the Touch ID sensor is clean
Follow the enrollment steps and UI prompts, and:
Have the customer try to enroll a finger on their own device.
Have the customer try to enroll a finger on another known-good device.
Ask permission, and then try to enroll your finger on the customers device.
If the issue only occurs with a certain fingers, have the customer try another finger. Do not service or replace the device for issues with a specific
finger(s). If the customer has an issue with certain fingers, explain that in some cases Touch ID may unable to match those fingers consistently.
This is usually caused by the readability of that fingerprint, and the customer can either try enrolling the finger at a later time, or use a different
finger for Touch ID.
If you and the customer are unable to enroll any fingers on the device, this indicates there is an issue with the Touch ID sensor and the iPhone 5s
should be serviced.

corrosion are found, replace any missing screws/cowlings, reconnect cables and continue testing.
If the device turns on, the serial number may be obtained in Diagnostics,
iTunes, and the IMEI can be obtained by dialing *#06# on the phone keypad.
Note : Do not use the iOS About screen to retrieve the serial number. If a
device turns on, and the printed serial number is missing or mismatched, use
the serial number obtained in Diagnostics or iTunes. The IMEI can be obtained
by dialing *#06# on the phone keypad.
If a device does not turn on, use the IMEI on the back housing and match it to
the internal serial number label to identify the device. If the back housing IMEI
