Experiment 1

1. Objective:

Investigating the dependence of the buoyancy force on the kind of liquid

2. Equipment:

Dynamometer
Hollow cylinder
Balance
Weight
Beaker
Water
Salt water
Ethanol

3. Procedure:

Place a mass the hollow cylinder attached to a dynamometer which

indicate the magnitude of the weight before immersing it in the water.
After its totally immersed read the new value of the weight force.
The difference between them is equal to the buoyant force.
Repeat this procedure in Salt water and ethanol.

4. Results
Liquid Water Salt water ethanol
Gravitational force 1 1 1
G in N
Force F in N 0.28 0.28 0.42
Buoyancy force Fb 0.78 0.78 0.58
in N
Density in g/cm3 1 1.027 0.789

5. Conclusion

Fb is dependent of the type of liquid because the bouncy of the same object
have different value or different liquid.

Experiment 2
1. Objective:

To Measure the buoyancy force as function of the immersion depth.

2. Equipment:

The equipment needed to use:

Water
Ethanol
Glycerin
Beaker
Cylinder
Dynamometer
Stand

3. Procedure:

Label the cylinder with 6 different points along its length.

Attach the cylinder to a dynamometer to measure its weight (F0) and
record it
Fill the beaker with water
Immerse the cylinder to the first point marked, then to the second, until to
reach the last point.
Record F at each time of immersing.
Calculate the difference between F and F each time.
Repeat this procedure for Ethanol and for Glycerin
