Course Description
This leadership course focuses on organizational, systems leadership, knowledge, and skills critical to role development
in masters prepared nurse. Content includes communication, conflict resolution, collaboration and negotiation,
leadership, and team functioning to maximize success in the establishment of safe, effective patient-centered care in
complex environments. Emphasis is on the synthesis of skills, knowledge and attitudes to coordinate holistic, evidence
based care in healthcare organizations.

Course Objectives
Upon completing this course you will be able to:

Assimilate effective leadership and management concepts and principles that are required to lead an
organizations in todays healthcare environment
Integrate concepts of basic organizational and systems theory with the mission and vision of the organization to
establish a culture of patient safety
Integrate evidence-based practice, research, and innovation in the formulation, implementation, and evaluation
of the nursing leadership/management practice model
Analyze healthcare delivery models, information systems, and patient safety technologies that support safe
nursing practice
Synthesize the knowledge of human capital management, health and public policy, economic resources and
their impact in healthcare delivery
Illustrate an appropriate course of action to evaluate, address, and prevent legal issues in regards to state and
federal regulatory laws and policies
Integrate diversity, evidence-based practice, and emotional intelligence to create a culture committed to patient
safety and quality outcomes
