A Message
from the
Director
The school reached its eighth year milestone in the 2015-2016 school year with 26 students
and 4 staff members.

The school continued to refine and enrich its curriculum with S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology,
Engineering, Arts, & Math).

Four one week S.T.E.A.M. modules were planned throughout the school year for students to
be involved in a week long learning module which focused on the engineer design process
and sharpened critical thinking skills. From building catapults, water pipelines prototypes,
and creating art pieces using recycled plastic bottle caps, students were actively involved in
hands-on learning projects that covered various skills in science, technology, engineering,
performing arts/visual arts, mathematics. and language arts.

Combining the latest innovations in technology and education with a girl-centered focus
equips students with a strong academic foundation and gives them the moral compass and
tools needed to move on to Middle and High School with confidence.

Huakailani Girls continue to make their mark in the community and are growing in leaps and
bounds. Huakailani School for Girls provides the right resources, encouraging environment,
and opportunities to excel, and watches their girls soar!

Two sixth grade students graduated at the end of the 2015-2016 school year. Both
graduating students were longtime students in the program. Scarlet was a Huakailani
student for six years and Emily attended for five years. Scarlet was accepted at Hawaii
Technology Academy and Emily was accepted at Le Jardin Academy for Seventh Grade

Kaori Brown, co-founder of the school, has served

as director of the school for eight years. She has
been teaching for 26 years. Her leadership and
passion propels the school to move forward with
its vision and mission to empower girls to be
confident, creative, caring, and bold.
