A place, where function of new gallery is meant to be has spectacular history. On the edge of the
historic center of Brno, on the place of hundreds years old fortied system was created a new
route. Along the road were built squares, parks with parades and buildings with social usage-
theathers, cafes and restaurants.

The surroundings of the landmark has rich cultural and social life. Theaters, galleries, cinemas,
squares bring plenty of impulses. Man gets out of there full of impressions. However, to process
Adjust the proportions these impulses he needs to stop and contemplate gained experience. Brno does not need only a
new gallery, but also a stopping place of silence and calmness. Architecture which is introverte.

Perforation of the building

in the area for pedestrian communications

Even though the atriums are open and communicating, passing peeople must pass
around an obstacle in form of water or botanic area. It makes people to slow down...
Creating outdoor atriums to stop. Even they are not about to visit the gallery, they feel impact of silent and intro-
verted architecture. Atrium is an architectural element, wich positive impacts uses also
the old gallery building.The ide of atriums is not only conceptual but also physical.

The second facade prevents the gallery from direct

views. It consists of berglass panels attached on
iron construction connected with the building. The
panels works as translucent and opaque facade.
They are rotating to allow people etner the inter-
space and have a look inside the gallery.

The constantly changing facade seems to be light

and the gallery is hidden behind it. It is introverted.
To move panels intuitively and easily the mecha-
nism immitates classic door handle.
Curatin wall can hide the gallery.
It is penetrabl ealong its entire length. The door handle still seems to me like a special
sign of entry into a world of different moods...
