RELEASE: First Multicultural Greek-Letter Organization Established at The

University of Oklahoma
Fourteen Women Found Alpha Rho Colony of Theta Nu Xi Multicultural Sorority, Inc.

Norman, OK -- Today, the founding line of Theta Nu Xi Multicultural Sorority, Inc.s newest chapter, and the
first multicultural sorority at The University of Oklahoma, will be emerging today at 2:00 pm. The 14
womens efforts to establish the sorority at OU marks the culmination of a 2-year endeavor. Seismic, as the
founding line will be known, joins the 12 other fraternities and sororities that make up the Multicultural
Greek Council (MGC) at OU.

On behalf of the University of Oklahoma, we are elated that Theta Nu Xi Multicultural Sorority, Inc. will be
joining our community, said Lindsay D. Echols, Associate Director of Student Life at The University of
Oklahoma. With over 6,000 members, we are continuously striving to have a community that has a focus on
brotherhood/sisterhood, values integration, intellectual development, and respect for everyone. We know that
the addition of Theta Nu Xi Multicultural Sorority, Inc. to our great campus will be a true catalyst, given that
the organization's dedication and focus on multiculturalism, social justice, and respect for all people will
inspire not only the fraternal community, but the campus of the University of Oklahoma.

As Theta Nu Xi Multicultural Sorority, Inc. celebrates its 20th anniversary since being founded on April 11,
1997, Seismics women join over 1,500 initiated members across the country. They come together from
different races, cultures, religions, backgrounds, and lifestyles to bring to this campus of 27,000 students the
type of unique perspective that an organization founded on the principle of multiculturalism can, and to
promote continuous education about cultural acceptance, fighting racism and prejudice, and leadership. The
expansion effort was led by Dara Monasch, who was a founding member of the Alpha Theta chapter at
Ramapo College in New Jersey in the Spring of 2009. She was aided by her two assistants, Xiomara Lara and
Patricia Millard, as well as 14 other dedicated sisters from across the nation.

"There couldnt be a better time in The University of Oklahomas history to establish a chapter of Theta Nu Xi
Multicultural Sorority, Inc., said Dara Monasch. OU boasts a broad range of Greek Lettered Organizations,
and we look forward to adding Theta Nu Xi to the mix. The fourteen founding members of the Alpha Rho
Colony are planning to hit the ground running in the Fall 2017 semester by bringing focus to issues of
diversity, intersectionality, and social justice via their campus initiatives."
