Reflections on Observation Task 1: Chit Chat

Read the questions below and write your answers

What was the most common reason for speaking?

I found that the children speak when the teacher asks them to repeat
the name of colors and name of physical movement back of him.
Second, reasons are when they chat and speak with their friend in the
Arabic language.

What was the least common reason for speaking?

I observe that the most children face difficulty when the teacher ask
him the question in English because they still didnt understand the
meaning of what teacher say.

How much of the lesson was spent on the teacher using Teacher Talk,
in your opinion?

In my view, I think the most time was teacher talk. Firstly, because the
teacher was asking children a question, Secondly, teacher don't
provide time to let children discuss with him. Also, the teacher all the
time was given children instruction of activities and the children just
listen.

Do you feel it was an appropriate amount of talk? Why / Why not?

No, I think its not enough amount because the children had few
amounts to talk just when the answer teachers. Also, I think that I
teacher dont give them open-end question to let them discuss and
answer he just asks Imitated answer question and it's for the low lever.
For example, he just shows them the flash of colors and asks them
What color is this?

Now consider how much Arabic was used. Do you think it was used
appropriately?
Why? / Why not?

From what I observe, I think children was talk in Arabica more than
English because they still they weren't able to speak in English
because they didnt have in kg 1 curriculum English subject
Reflection for Bonus Points
You do not have to do this activity. However, if you want a higher
grade, you must do it. If you are interested in thinking about this
subject more, consider the following reflection.

Choose one of the following questions (A, B, or C) and write your

answer:

A. Why is talk important for teachers?

In my view, the commune reason of teacher has long amount of talking.

Firstly, because the teacher giving the student role, explain the concept of
lesson, give instruction of activities or games. Secondly, I think because the
teacher comment children work. For example, when teacher pairs child,
comment and evaluate them.

Why is talk important for learners? (Think about the What and
How.)

In my opinion, I think is so much important that teacher let the student

talk and disuse because it supports children to develop their language
by practice to talk with other friends in class. The teacher should
provide time to let children talk by prepare open-end question, discuss
in circle area about any topic and prepare group work activities to let
children talk about each other, discuss and cooperation.

B. Why is it important to think about using English for varied

purposes in the classroom? For example, not just for giving an
example, but also for correcting, for praising, for everyday uses, like
asking for help, or asking to borrow something?
