Questions :
29. A type K thermocouple measurement system must provide an output of
0 2.5 for a temperature variation of 500 700 . A three-terminal
solid-state sensor with 12 / will be used to provide reference
compensation. Develop the complete circuit.
30. A calibrated RTD with = 0.0041/, = 306.5 at 20, and =
30 / will be used to measure a critical reaction temperature. Temperature
must be measured between 50 and 100 with a resolution of at least 0.1.
Devise a signal-conditioning system that will provide an appropriate digital
output to a computer. Specify the requirements on the ADC and appropriate
analog signal conditioning to interface to your ADC.
Answer :
29. Type K output 0 2.5 for temperature range 500 700
Reference compensation 12 /, the output for type K with 0 is
(500) = 20.65
(700 ) = 29.14
The equation that given : = + 0 , So we have
0 = (0.02065) + 0
2.5 = (0.02914) + 0
Substitute both equation,
0 = (0.02065) + 0
2.5 = (0.02914) + 0

2.5 = (0.02605 0.02914)
= 294.5
And the value of 0 is 6.081.
We can write the equation that we need become :
= 1.4725(200 4.129)
The circuit from the equation above is :

30. A calibrated RTD with = 0.0041/, = 306.5 at 20, and = 30 /

Range temperature : 50 to 100 (50),
50
resolution 0.1 0.1 = 500 increment. We use 10-bit ADC unipolar.

Reference : 5
50 = 306.5[1 + 0.0041(50 20)] = 344.2
100 = 306.5[1 + 0.0041(100 20)] = 407.0

We must keep the self heating below 0.01 to maintain 0.1, thus = 0.01

= (0.03)(0.01) = 0.3
Voltage maximum that across the RTD is

= = (0.3)(344.2) = 0.32

We find the value 1 :

(5 0.3)
1 = = 5393
0.3/344.2
If we make 4 = 1 then we have 2 is :
(5 0.3)
1 = = 15.7
0.3/1000
At 100, we will have a bridge offset voltage :
5(407)
= 0.3 = 0.0509
407 + 5393
5 4.995
Since the input to ADC needs to be 5 210 = 4.995, the amplifier gain that we need = 0.0509 =
98.13. So the equation is :
5
= 98.13[ 0.3]
+ 5393
The circuit that we need to satisfy the requirement is :
