REMINESCENCE- LOOKING INTO ROOTS OF RAYALSEEMA TRADITIONAL ARCHITECTURE

THE DISCOVERY OF ACHITECTURE architectural thought and process

A CONTEMPORARY TREATISE ON ANCIENT VALUES and INDIGENOUS REALITY
There is at present, disconnect between contemporary architecture and the values emanating from our
indigenous realities of geographical diversity, historical richness, and ethical depth.
New theoretical understanding of architecture relevant for our times from a closer examination of
indigenous reality and by seeking truths embedded in ancient values
Architecture emerging at the conjunction of three axes geography, History, Philosophy
Is it Possible that we have lost the ability to learn from and derive inspiration for contemporary
architecture from indigenous realities mentioned above?
Four part analytical matrix for study -
1. Self as community when self assumes the nature of community, there is a creative interaction
which results in
2. Action coupled with awareness transformation of physical reality, in architecture it would
refer to the act of building guided by the awareness of an evolving universe. Once the building
is made, it requires
Building activity is grounded in place and people
Unhealthy carbon foot print and ecological degradation, which may be a garden, a building, group of
buildings, a neighborhood
Steel & concrete set the standards in construction
Native ingenuity: types of construction, types of buildings- memorial, institutional, residential
3. Maintenance as renewal physical object is subject to entropy and will decay, a continuous
activity of maintenance is essential to renew and extend its life/usefulness so that it remains an
asset to the community. Renewal brings awareness of time and the rhythm of life & death, and
this leads to
The awareness of time: buildings are not static: through usage, modification, adaptation, redevelopment
Energy & materials, design as a diagnostic activity, symbolic understanding of life process; rhythm of life
& death,
4. Regeneration with learning- becomes a spiral allowing the new generation to evolve to a higher
or more subtle reality informed by the learning and knowledge of earlier generations.
Development of skills & the transformation of consciousness, transmission of knowledge from generation
to generation
