PROCEDURE FOR ALUMINUM DOORS AND WINDOWS INTALLATION

I PURPOSE:
This procedure defines the method and practices that will be used on installing aluminium doors,
windows and louver panels as specified and as shown on the approved references (Drawings and
Details) for Industrial Support Facilities Buildings EPC-06 at Jizan Economic City.

II SCOPE:
This procedure is applicable within AYC projects at Industrial Support Facilities Building (ISFB) EPC-06 at
Jizan Economic City, Jizan, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Works shall conform to the Project Specifications,
applicable Aramco Standards and Product recommendations.

III RESPONSIBILITES:
a) Site Engineer shall be responsible for the implementation of this Installation Procedure
under the direct supervision of the Construction Managers.
b) Approved Manufacturer- to supply and install the product
c) QC Inspectors shall perform monitoring and inspections during installation process.

V QUALITY ASSURANCE
Aluminum Doors, Windows and Louver Panels shall be warranted on a single document
by the manufacturer and installer, against defects in materials and workmanship for a
given period as described in the Project Specification.

A PRODUCT REQUIREMENT
A1. Windows and Frames
1) Windows shall conform to AAMA-101 windows shall be provided with insulating
glass units, two part hermetically sealed, as per Project Specification. Required
sizes and dimensions of window units are shown on the drawings.
2) Window members and louver panels shall be extruded aluminium 6063-T5 alloy
or approved equivalent. All frames shall be carefully machined and fit to hairline
joinery, mechanically fastened in such a manner as to develop the strength of the
joined member or heli-arc welded on welded on unexposed surfaces. Watertight
joints shall be provided at all corners. All screws, fasteners and accessories shall
be noncorrosive materials compatible with Aluminum.
3) All sash shall be shall be carefully machined and fit to hairline joinery,
mechanically assembled with screws. Sash shall be equipped with adjustable
rollers and with appropriate glazing stops, ready to receive glazing. Watertight
joints shall be provided at all corners.
4) Main frame and sash members shall have a nominal thickness of not less than 300
mm (0.2) as per approved submittal no. ISFB-T AY-SA-01045. Minimum thickness
of glazing beads shall be 1.6 mm (1/16).
5) Typical mullion sizes 50 mm X 135 mm; window frame 80 mm X 105 mm
(casement fix) as per approved submittal no. ISFB-T AY-SA-01045.
6) Fabricate windows allowing for minimum clearances and shim spacing around
perimeter of assembly, yet enabling installation. Develop moisture holes with
moisture pattern to exterior.
7) Design shall include a method of weepage to exterior for condenssation or
leakage. Sills shall have a minimum of three (3) weep holes per section for the
transfer of condensation and leakage of exterior. Weep holes shall be a minimum
of 10 mm (3/8) diameter. Weep holes shall be baffled to prevent water entry
under negative pressure.
8) All window units and louver panels shall be weather-stripped. Weather strip
material (Plastic, Woven, or Metallic) shall be compatible with aluminium alloy
used for frames. Weather stripping shall be installed in retaining groves design as
an integral part of the aluminium section. Weather stripping shall be continuous
at corners.

A2. Doors and Frames


1) Framing :
a) Material: Aluminum extrusions, 6061 alloy
b) Finish:
1. Clear anodized Aluminum, AAMA 611 Class ll
2. Powder Coating: Color white or as selected by representative.
c) Main Frame sizes 50 mm X 135 mm (0.2)
d) Shutter 80 mm X 42 X 3 mm (0.2)
e) Kick Plate 130 mm X 42 mm X 3 mm (0.2)

2) Sites, Rails and Mullions:


a) Site and Rail Site Lines: 1.5 inches ( 38 mm) sight line, 0.051 inch (1.3 mm)
minimum thickness
b) Door Bottom Rail: 10 inches (254 mm) sight lines
c) Built-In Mullions: 1.5 inches (38 mm) sight lines

A3. Glazing
a) Glass and Glazing shall be as per Project Specification
A4. Finish Hardware
a) All hardware shall be designed for the function of the window and provide
a positive closure. Hardware shall be attached with corrosion-resistant
fasteners. Hardware shall be accessible for adjustment and replacement
from inside building without damaged to windows.
b) Provide quality products from Saudi Aramco Approved Manufacturers as
per Project Specification.

B EXECUTION
B1 Preparation:
1) Verify that the openings are acceptable for installation
2) Do not begin installation until substrates have been properly prepared.

B2 Installation:
1) Installation shall be in accordance with the approved installation instructions.
2) Units shall be securely anchored in place to a straight, plumb, and level
without distortion.
3) Wood spacers shall not be used in the installation of frames. Only metallic or
plastic spacers shall be allowed for positioning the frames in the surrounding
structure.
4) Final adjustment for proper operation of the unit shall be made after glazing.
5) Where aluminium surfaces are in contact with, or fastened to dissimilar
materials, except stainless steel or zinc, the aluminium surface shall be
protected from dissimilar materials as specified in the appendix of AAMA 10.
6) Surfaces in contact with sealants after installation shall not be coated with any
type of protective material.
7) After installation, units shall be plumb, level and true to line without warp or
rack of frames, anchored securely in place.
8) Tolerances shall be:
a) Solid extrusions 0.16 mm;
b) Hollow extrusions 0.25 mm;
c) Overall size tolerances shall be with 1.6 mm for all dimensions up to
2.0 meters and 3.2 mm for all dimensions in excess of 2.o meters
9) Finishing hardware: Provide and install the hardware sets specified where
indicated on the drawing. Provide specific hardware set and associated doors
as per Project Specification.

C ADJUSTMENT, CLEANING and PROTECTION


C1 Clear surfaces thoroughly prior to installation.
C2 Adjustment shall be made to operating sash to assure smooth operation and units shall
be weather tight when locked closed.
C3 Doors and windows shall be cleaned on both exterior and interior in accordance with
manufacturers recommendations. Exercise care to avoid damage of the protective
coating.
C4 Provide protective treatment and other precautions required through the remainder of
the construction period, to ensure that frames will be without damage or deterioration
at the time of acceptance.

D DELIVERY, STORAGE and HANDLING


D1. Deliver product after space is enclosed and wet work is complete.
D2. Doors, windows and louver panels shall be individually wrapped or crated to avoid
aluminium to aluminium contact during shipping and shall be protected from weather
and damage.
D3. Handle the units in a manner to prevent damage to the edges and finish.
D4. The units shall be stored in a vertical position above ground and in a dry designated area
as close as possible to point of installation
D5. Store finishing hardwares in bins in a locked area

VIII QUALITY CONTROL and ACCEPTANCE:


Work acceptance shall be in accordance to Approved Installation Procedure, Product
Recommendations and applicable Aramco Standards.

IX HEALTH, SAFETY and ENVIRONMENT:


a) Health, Safety and Environment issues shall be guided by AYC safety procedures and ARAMCO
Standard.
b) Work area to be kept clean, safe and easily accessible
c) Appropriate PPE shall be worn at all times
d) Safety talk shall be conducted to remind the workers about the risk involved before
commencing the activity
