3. Please fill in the following information about the project

Education level Education level of this project is at the high school level, but educational
importance of this project is multiple. The primary importance is
encouraging innovative and entrepreneurial spirit of students. Secondary,
student innovators acquire knowledge and skills to design and make
modern mechatronic systems. Also, most important fact is: the new
students will have a modern didactical system in specialized
classroom.Students are in the process of realization of the project
participated in the assembly field of flexible manufacturing cell, but also in
the process of its programming. Additional importance of this project can
be viewed through its use in the classroom. Flexible manufacturing cell is
used in the teaching fields of: automation, robotics, CNC machining,
recycling technologies and sustainability, process control and
mechatronics. Knowledge and skills that students acquire in the process of
working with flexible manufacturing cells are practice applicable and
demanded in the national and international labor market.
Number of students / groups 4 students Mechanical engineering CAD/CAM technicians
Materials required The basic resource is high quality teaching staff that has the knowledge
necessary for the project realization. The School has adequately equipped
workshops, but to improve the quality of teaching in mechanical
engineering, for this project, we need a 3D printer, ABC or PLA plastic wire,
Small - NEMA 17 (or NEMA 23) Stepper motors with 1Nm holding torque.
The rest of already used materials for finished parts of the Flexible
manufacturing cell are: Control electronics, Geared stepper motors, Steel
parts, Aluminum Parts, Sheet Metal Parts, Paints, Belts, Laser and optical
sensors, Cables, Connectors, Computers and software for programming
robots in flexible manufacturing cell and synchronizing (complex control of)
multiple mechatronics systems...
Duration of project 1 year
Which subjects it relates to Modern Manufacturing and Control Systems, Automation, Robotics,
Mechatronics, CNC technology, Rapid Prototyping, Innovation...
Full description of the project Project plan is to 3D print all parts for new SCARA type robot with 3 Axis of
movement. The new robot will be part of the finalized flexible
manufacturing cell. SCARA robot will work synchronized with old finished
robot (with 5 axes of movement and 6 axes for controlling a gripper), and
fulfill the tasks within the flexible manufacturing cell. Flexible
manufacturing cell is complex structure integrated from robots, small CNC
machine and belt conveyer (Youtube video see our finalized flexible
manufacturing cell in work
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EhA4OWitPQw).For this innovative
project school team received a special prize at the national competition of
innovators "Best Technological Innovation 2013", and the international
competition of innovators "INOST in Banja Luka 2014 ". Flexible
manufacturing cell integrate machining system with the transport
subsystem and the handling system - robotic system designed for the
preparatory function of the machining process, controlled with a
centralized control system. Model of flexible manufacturing cells integrated
into its structure Sherline CNC milling machine and two products made in
the school workshops: didactic robot manipulator (vertical robotic system
configuration with 5 controlled axes of movement and 6 axes for
movement of robotic arm - gripper) and the conveyor belt controlled by an
laser and photocell and powered by its own electronic system which run
the DC motors. The advantage of such model of the real industrial system is
the obvious display of flexible machining - processing parts of various
shapes and purposes with standard tools, but also the integration of such
computer-controlled system with handling and transport subsystems.

Most schools in Serbia do not have flexible manufacturing cell. Teaching

norms require their use in mechanical and electrical engineering high
school education process. The main advantages of this innovations is its
flexibility (modules can be used for different purposes) and functional
modularity (modules are relatively easily assembled and disassembled and
each module is autonomous), low price, easy and quick training, easy
programming, expansion possibilities. All of the advantages above point to
project's high success probability.

The students, together with teachers - members of The Innovation Team of

Technical School from Smederevo participated in all phases of the project.
The conceptual design of the flexible manufacturing cell was equally
performed by the students and the teachers - member of the Innovation
team. The students have worked on acost efficiency analysis, by designing
a 3D computer model of all modules of the flexible manufacturing cell in
several variations, and, together with teachers, selected an optimal
solution. Preparing the project documentation in this way, in the planning
stage, a kinematic analysis of individual modules and innovation in general
was prepared, as well as the analysis of simulated exploitation conditions.
The students completed the checkup of all the elements of the computer
simulation, along with the members of the Innovation team, under the
teachers' supervision.

It has already been said that the role of the students from the Innovation
Team was equal to the teachers' role. It can also be said that
the students' role in implementing the project was even somewhat bigger.
In the phase of supplying the components, the students and teachers
together collected the offers and chose the most favourable ones. In
choosing the materials and elements for the construction of the flexible
production cell modules the ecological aspect was taken into consideration.
A recycled plastic belt was used for the conveyer module; the used paints
are also ecological since they are water-based. As for the manufacturing of
the mechanical components of the innovation, the students and teachers
participated equally in the following phases: in the machining and manual
working of the lateral sides of the belt conveyer and the robot in the
workshops of the our School, in the preparation of construction and in the
technological preparation of the parts which were manufactured in the
company "Metech". In the phase of assembling and testing the electronic
and controlling modules of the flexible manufacturing cell, the students
and teachers were equally involved in checking the response of the
controlling elements, detecting and eliminating errors in communication
among the controlling elements as well as in their calibration. The student
had a particularly prominent role in the phase of final assembly, final
calibration and exploitation testing of the flexible manufacturing cell
functional unit. The students made a video clip of the operation of the
manufacturing cell, which they programmed
themselves.

A lot of the students' efforts was also put in for creating presentation
materials used for the promotional purposes, in order to provide the
necessary funds in the initial planning stages of the project. Complete
Innovation Team made presentations, at the local and national level by
presenting the idea and costs structure. In the planning phase, the flexible
production cell was presented to: the school management, the local
government, the Chamber of Commerce, the local companies, Inventors
Association and similar organizations (See video presentation of our
Innovative work on Serbian national television RTS -
http://www.rts.rs/upload/storyBoxFileData/2016/11/17/8823488/Masina-

Learning goals Flexible manufacturing cell, as the name says, has elements of modern
technology. This innovation is a joint project of teachers and students. All
learning goals are achieved through innovative work of a team of talented
students and teachers of electrical and mechanical engineering, recycling
technologies and sustainability.
Learning goals are:
- The primary goal is involving students in innovation activities
- Students innovators acquire knowledge and skills to design and make
modern mechatronic systems
- Another aspect is to raise student environmental awareness through the
choice of environmentally friendly and energetically justified - recycled
materials.
- The importance of this project can be viewed through its use in the
classroom. Flexible manufacturing cell is used in the teaching fields of:
automation, robotics, CNC machining, recycling technologies and
sustainability, process control, mechatronics.
- Knowledge and skills that students acquire in the process of working with
flexible manufacturing cells are practice applicable and demanded in the
national and international labor market.
- A very important goal of this innovation is its international verification. It
can also allow the innovative team members to obtain financial benefit for
the school, and to give them motivation for new innovations.
- The educational purpose of this project is huge, as the areas that this
teaching aid covers are numerous.
- Important goal, not directly linked to the learning goals, is Schools
international verification, which indirectly influences the learning process.

The influence of these innovative projects on school is complex: the School

is promoted, it gets connected with industrial subjects in the environment
even more, reduces the costs of modern teaching aids, increases the quality
of teaching.

Our long-term goals are improving the quality of teaching and high ranking
of our School among other similar type of schools in Serbia and abroad. We
use different methods in achieving this goal and maintaining the attained
level. By participating in national and international competitions with our
innovation project we contribute to the national and international
verification of our school.

We realized in our everyday work that the final success can be achieved
only by raising the scientific and technical level of our knowledge and
passing it on to our students in the process of education. Apart from
normal engagements, we need to give "something more" through
additional forms of teaching like that we have in the Innovation Team.
