Teacher Professional Development Plan

Teacher: Rebecca Burleson School: Norwood Elementary School

Grade level: Second/Third Subject: Special Education

Approval date: School year: 2016 - 2017

Based on your own self-assessment, your administrators input, previous observations or evaluations, and any school or district initiatives, what
professional development goal(s) have you identified for this school year? What is an area of knowledge or skill you would like to strengthen in your
teaching practice?
I would like to increase student achievement in reading by strengthening individual skill deficits in phonemic awareness and/or phonics. In
order to promote reading success, I will need to strengthen my knowledge of phonemic awareness in the areas of assessment and instruction.

Describe the connection between this goal and your current teaching assignment. How does it relate to the Domains and Components of the BCPS
Evaluation Criteria in Charlotte Danielsons Framework for Teaching?

Domain 3: 3d: Using Assessment in Instruction & 3e: Demonstrating Flexibility and Responsiveness
Domain 4: 4e. Grow and Develop Professionally

How will you demonstrate growth towards your professional development goal? Describe the activities you will take part in that will assist you in
meeting success towards achieving your goal. What evidence can you provide to your evaluators to indicate success towards growth?

Students will be assessed using the pre-reading probe, beginning decoding survey, and individual guided reading levels. I will be attending a
series of monthly professional development trainings for the foundational skills of reading. I will also collaborate with teachers and/or
specialists who are also participating in these trainings. Student progress will be monitored weekly and progress will be recorded quarterly.

Are there any resources/materials that you will need in order to successfully meet your goal?

This was discussed and agreed upon.
