Originally the stuff of sci-fi movies, iris scanning is
commonplace today. Youre as likely to encounter it
at airport security as you are on modern smartphones
such as Samsungs new S8 (reviewed on page 62). On
phones, the front-facing camera tracks the iris; it uses
infrared optics to scan your eye for added security.
Like the ridges, troughs and valleys of skin cells that
make up your fingerprints, the patterns in your iris
are unique to you, making it an excellent hands-free
alternative to fingerprint scanners on phones.

#DELETEUBER
A perfect storm of public-relations
blunders rocked Uber earlier this
year. First, Uber appeared to be
ruthlessly profiting from New York
taxi drivers protesting the Trump
travel ban against largely Muslim
countries. It didnt help that Uber
CEO Travis Kalanick had joined
one of Trumps committees. Then,
a senior manager at Uber went
public with horrific tales of sexist
corporate culture rampant within
the company. In the midst of that
scandal, Kalanick was caught on
camera verbally abusing his own
Uber driver.
WIREFRAME
One of the core elements of good design is planning. A wireframe is
part of the planning stage of creating a website. Its like a schematic
or a floor plan in that it shows where all the important elements will go,
but without worrying about the specifics. So, in the same way that a
floorplan shows where a door should go, but not what sort of door itll
be, a website wireframe will show you where the navigation buttons
will go, but not what they will look like.

Since the First World War made pocket-

wristwatch has been a timeless ambassador
of ones style, taste, and, of course, status.
Unfortunately, much as with most modern
electronic gadgets, smartwatches have not
proven very heirloom-worthy so far.
Now, premium watchmaker Tag Heuer has
given the fashion-forward gadget-hound a

timepiece without having to pass up the very

The Tag Heuer Connected Modular 45 is
the perfect blend of Swiss watchmaking and

The styling is very subtle for a

them with more practical multimedia

the fully programmable LED lighting
