AUTOMATIC OPERATION

In automatic operation, the mechanism of the pumps to turn on

and to turn off is based on the motor controls design. A deep well will
be constructed in order to house 2 pumps, inside the deep well are
relays rigged to trigger upon contact. The relays are carefully
positioned to avoid the delay of pumps to turn on and to turn off
instantly. The number of pumps to turn on is based on the water level
reached inside the deep well. A floatless relay gives the signal if the
water inside the deep well is rising and several more relays give the
signal if the water level keeps rising.

The bottom sensor is a limiting relay; it senses when the water

level reaches 2.2m inside the deep well. It is also a trigger to stop the
pumps so that it may be prevented from overheating. When the
volume of water inside the deep well is 20 cubic meters, the pumps will
stop. When the water level drops below the 2.2m mark, pumps stop.
The low level depth is 0.1m above the walkway, inside the deep well it
is a 6m depth. Once the water level reaches the relay, the volume is
827.43 m3. The rate at which the water level rises depends upon the
precipitation advised. Once the depth of water reaches 6m, a second
float relay is triggered. This is the low level relay at which a single
pump is recommended to be used. While the limiting float is still
triggered, the low level relay signals pump1 or pump 2 to start
pumping out water. Pump1 or Pump2 will only stop when the depth of
water drops to or below 2.2m and the volume inside the deep well 20
m3. A third sensor, which is located 6.05m inside the deep well, is a
high level sensor. This indicates that even though a single working
pump is not capable of draining water, and that water level continues
to rise. Once the sensor has been triggered, contacts close to bypass
the switches so that even if the control knob is on M, which is manual,
two pumps will be energized to drain water. In the event that water is
entering in the main gates, the control box could be shut off so that
pumps will remain de-energized. There is no use of pumping water out
if water is entering at the main gates. At The high level, the volume is
1789.21 m3, and the depth of 0.15m on the roads and walkways. At
this point pump 1 and pump 2 will operate to drain water from the
roads and inside the deep well. Once the water level drops below the
2.2m mark or the limiting relay, pumps 1 and 2 will be de-energized.
This means that water inside has been drained.

ASSUMPTIONS:

1. The precipitation is per hour basis.

2. Flooding is based only on rainfall alone.
3. All floodgates are closed, meaning all drainages are blocked.
4. Only half of the university is considered.
5. The other half of the university is identical
