SIGNIFICANCE
Sampling is equally important as the testing, and the
sampler shall used every precaution to obtain samples that
will show the nature and condition of the material which
they represent.

Apparatus

Shovel Balance
Plastic Bag Marker

Sieve Weighing Scale(Kilo) Sack

Procedure
1. Gather everyone to the site (at ladies dorm).

2.Get an assurance to have a permit to dig and get soil sample in the said property land.

3.Choose an appropriate place to dig(where you can get a sample that will appropriately
represent the site)

4.Using the shovel start digging up to 1.2m-1.5m.

5.When 1.2m is attain, start collecting soil sample.

6.Put the soil sample on the sack that need to be dry.

7. And put some soil sample in the plastic bag for the laboratory test in determination of
water content, then weigh No.40 material(25g), No.10 material(50g), and No.4
material(100g).

8. Dried thoroughly in air or under the sun.(Soil sample in the sack)

9.When the soil sample was fully dry, obtain the required quantity of sample for each test,
Using the sieve, balance, and weighing scale(kilo).

10.For lab in specific gravity test, its weight on an oven dry basis shall be at least 200 gm.

11.For lab in grain size analysis, material passing no. 10 sieve, 300g.

12.For lab in consistency limits (liquid limit, plastic limit, shrinkage limit determination),
material passing no.40 sieve, 1kg.

13.For lab in compaction test, material passing no.4 sieve, 6kg.

14.For lab in permeability test, material passing no.4 sieve 3kg.

Observation
1. We observe that when we dig up to 1.2m water start to build up.

2. Digging at the surface of the ground is difficult, but if you attain a 1.2m it
became easier because the soil has higher water content than at the top
ground.

3. Sieving in no. 200 is difficult than sieving in no. 10.(higher diameter, the
easier to sieve while smaller diameter, the difficult to sieve)

Conclusion
Digging for soil samples is not an easy task because
precaution and care should be emphasize when performing
the activity.

Recommendation
In doing such an activity (sampling aggregates), every group members must
act responsibly because there are lots of time and effort that are wasted.

There are also some apparatus that are not appropriate to use because those
are defected.
