CASTOR OIL BENEFITS

Castor seeds contain very high concentrations of a special fatty acid called ricin
oleic acid, thought to underlie its healing properties .Castor beans also contain a
potent toxin called ricinso deadly that its used for chemical warfarebut dont
worry, this agent is NOT present in the oil. Castor oil is claimed to treat
gastrointestinal and genitourinary problems, all types of infections, and pain and
inflammation, and is said to stimulate your immune system; science is also
exploring the use of ricinas an antitumor agent. Advocates claim castor oil is most
effective for strengthening your lymphatic system. Castor oil is regarded by some
as a remedy for constipation remedy. Used as an antiviral, antibacterial, and
antifungal, or that it has been used topically to treat a variety of skin conditions,
reduce pain, and stimulate your immune system. He oil has a very consistent
viscosity and won't freeze, which makes it ideal for lubricating equipment in
severely cold climates. Modern non-medicinal uses for castor oil include Food
additive and flavoring agent Mold inhibitor Ingredient in skin care products and
cosmetics (lipstick, shampoo, soap, and others)Used in the manufacturing of
plastics, rubbers, synthetic resins, fibers, paints, varnishes, lubricants, sealants,
dyes, and leather treatments; the lubricants company Castrol took its name from
castor oil. The U.S. FDA gives castor oil a "thumbs up," deeming it "generally
regarded as safe and effective" for use as a stimulant laxative. Taking castor oil
orally usually results in a "purging" of the digestive tract in about four to six hours.
Castors main side effects fall into the categories of skin reactions and
gastrointestinal upset, which isn't terribly surprising given the agent's actions on
your intestinal wall. Castor oil is broken down by your small intestine into ricinoleic
acid, which acts as an irritant to your intestinal lining. This effect is what gives
castor oil the ability to reverse constipationbut it's also the reason that some
people report digestive discomfort, diarrhea, and other gastrointestinal side effects.
If you suffer from cramps, irritable bowel, ulcers, diverticulitis, hemorrhoids, colitis,
prolapses, or have recently undergone surgery, you should probably avoid castor oil
due to these possible adverse reactions.

HEALTH BENEFITS
Indians would traditionally boil seed kernels or hulls in milk and water, and
then consume the brew to relieve arthritis, lower back pain, and sciatica.
According to Williams' article8, castor seed plants are widely used in India for
all sorts of medical problems, including the following

Constipation

Dysentery

Inflammatory bowel disease

Bladder and vaginal infections

Asthma

Canary Islanders made poultices from the leaves of the castor plant to treat
gynecological problems. Nursing mothers applied these poultices to their
breasts to increase milk secretion and relieve inflammation of their
mammary glands, and applied the poultice to their abdomens to promote
normal menstruation.

Modern Medicinal Uses for Castor Oil

In general, the reported medicinal uses of castor oil fall into the following five
general categories:

Gastrointestinal remedy

Antimicrobial (antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal)

Labor stimulant9

Anti-inflammatory and analgesic

Immune system and lymphatic stimulant

he oil's benefits can be derived by topical application, and it appears to be

useful for a variety of skin conditions like keratosis, dermatosis, wound
healing, acne, ringworm, warts and other skin infections, sebaceous cysts,
itching, and even hair loss. Castor oil and ricinoleic acid also enhance the
absorption of other agents across your skin. And castor oil shows some
promise in the treatment of cancer. According to the American Cancer
Society10. Oncologists now use castor oil as a vehicle for delivering some
chemotherapy drugs to cancerous tumors. A special formula of castor oil
called Cremophor EL is used as a carrier for paclitaxel, a drug used to treat
metastatic breast cancer and other tumors. Unfortunately, the vehicle
sometimes causes problems of its own, including allergic reactions. This has
prompted a search for substitute carriers. Clinical trials suggest that ricin,
when combined with an antibody to confine this poison to malignant cells,
shrinks tumors in lymphoma patients

Multiple sclerosis
Parkinson's disease Cerebral Palsy Arthritis Migraine and other
headaches

Cholecystitis (inflamed gallbladder) Epilepsy Liver ailments, including

cirrhosis

Scleroderma Appendicitis, colitis, and other intestinal problems=

AIDS Detoxification

Cancer Eye irritation Gynecological problems

Castor oil has been found to have a strong suppressive effect on some
tumors. An Indian study in 2011 found that castor leaf extract showed better
antibacterial activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria
than Gentamycin (their standard for comparison). An Indian study in 2011
found that castor leaf extract showed better antibacterial activity against
both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria than Gentamycin (their
standard for comparison). In this 2000 study15 of the effects of ricinoleic
acid on inflammation, researchers found it exerted "capsaicin-like" anti-
inflammatory properties. Patients with occupational dermatitis may have a
positive reaction to castor oil or ricinoleic acid

longer hair. The oil boosts blood circulation to the follicles, leading to faster
hair growth. The oil also has omega-9 essential fatty acids that are
responsible for healthy hair (10). It also helps reduce split ends, controls hair
breakage, and conditions and moisturizes your hair. Scalp infection can

extremely helpful in treating dry and damaged hair. the ancient Egyptians,
who used it to treat eye irritations and as a powerful natural skin care
remedy. In India, castor oil has been prized for its skin-healing, digestive-
soothing, antibacterial properties and is commonly used in traditional
Ayurvedic medicine practices. . Castor oil is capable of increasing white blood
cells and the count of T-11 cells (a type of special white blood cells that act
like antibodies) produced within the bodys lymphocytes that help kill
viruses, fungi, bacteria and cancer cells. castor oil also contains certain
beneficial salts and esters that function primarily as skin-conditioning agents.
At the same time, they help stabilize the texture and consistency of
products, which is why castor oil is used in so many cosmetics, hair and skin-
care treatments.

Castor Oil Benefits

As an unsaturated fatty acid, ricinoleic acid found in castor oil has many
healing abilities, including:

supporting the lymphatic system

increasing circulation

preventing the growth of viruses, bacteria, yeasts and molds

fighting skin disorders and infections

helping to kill ringworm, keratoses, skin inflammation, abrasions and fungal

infections

healing acne

helping hair grow

reducing itching and swelling on the skin

fighting toenail fungus

easing constipation

hydrating chapped lips

reducing painful sunburns

helping with pregnancy and inducing labor

One of the major reasons castor oil has strong immune-enhancing effects is
because it supports the bodys lymphatic system. The most significant role of
the lymphatic system, which is spread throughout the whole body in small
tubular structures, is that it absorbs and removes excess fluids, proteins and
waste materials from our cells. Lymph nodes located within these tubes act
like the bodys natural filters for toxins, and they also pump out antibodies
when were sick to keep foreign proteins or bacteria at bay. If youve ever
had an enlarged lymph node in your neck or near your genitals, for example,
this is a sign that a high level of antibodies is being released in order to fight
an infection near that area.

10 Castor Oil Uses

1. Improves Immune Function

Castor oil is believed to improve lymphatic drainage, blood flow, thymus

gland health and other immune system functions. Research has shown that
patients who use abdominal castor oil packs have significant increases in the
production of lymphocytes compared with patients using placebo packs.
Lymphocytes are the immune systems natural disease-fighters that attack
outside invaders such as toxins, bacteria and other perceived threats. Castor
oil helps with the production of proper levels of lymphocytes, which are
released and stored within the lymphatic tissue from the thymus gland,
spleen, lymph nodes and tissue that lines the small intestine. The lymphatic
system also impacts the circulatory and digestive systems, which is why
castor oil has benefits for helping you detox, supporting heart health and
healing digestive issues like constipation, too. Castor oil is hydrolyzed in the
small intestine by pancreatic enzymes, leading to the release of glycerol and
ricinoleic acid, along with other beneficial metabolites.

2. Boosts Circulation
Proper blood flow and immunity go hand in hand. When the lymphatic
system fails (or edema develops, which is the retention of fluid and toxins),
its much more likely someone will become chronically ill. The circulatory
system is responsible for pumping blood to and from the heart, where it
moves oxygen throughout the body through small arteries and tiny vessels
called capillaries. Within microscopic tubular structures held in the lungs,
blood exchanges oxygen and nutrients for cellular waste. This process is
crucial for keeping us alive, bringing oxygen to our cells and detoxing our
bodies.

3. Fights Skin Infections and Wounds

As you probably already know, beauty is more than skin deep; the health of
your skin is often a reflection of the health of your gut, immune system and
hormonal balance. The real price of beauty is steep, and loading your skin
with chemical ingredients found in store-bought skin care products usually
only makes irritation worse. Castor oil is completely natural and synthetic-
free, yet it can be directly absorbed through the skin, resulting in several
positive outcomes for skins appearance. First and foremost, circulation and
blood flow increase, which helps the body better fight infections and heal
wounds. Castor oil also works like a natural antibacterial, antifungal and
antimicrobrial agent that targets underlying causes of skin disorders. Lymph
flow also improves with castor oil use, which can help speed up the removal
of cellular-related toxins and therefore lowers levels of swelling, redness and
inflammation at the root of most diseases.

4. Helps Balance Hormones and Improve Libido

Enhancing the absorption of fat molecules within the digestive tract is
essential for the formation of healthy hormones. Thats what makes castor oil
consumption a way to balance hormones naturally. Also with less floating
toxins present within and around cells, coupled with better blood flow, sex
organ function works more efficiently and people experience less PMS
symptoms, fatigue, mood swings and depression.

5. Induces Labor

Castor oil is a time-honored natural remedy for inducing labor. For centuries,
pregnant women at full term have been given castor oil orally to help speed
up uterus contractions. The reason castor oil works for inducing labor is
because ricinoleic acid in the oil activates EP3 prostanoid receptors in the
uterus. One downside of using castor oil to help with delivery, and the reason
its not commonly used in hospitals, is that some woman feel nauseous due
to its effects.

6. Heals Dry, Irritated, Sun-Burnt or Acne-Prone Skin

As a natural antibacterial agent, castor oil works similarly to coconut oil for
healing skin. It also makes a great skin moisturizer, anti-inflammatory
blemish treatment, and can delay the signs of aging like wrinkles since it
helps increase collagen and elastin production. If you want to heal acne
forever, you need to get to the source of the problem. The ricinoleic acid
found in castor oil makes it a great natural home remedy for fighting mild
acne. As it penetrates deep into the skin, it fights bacteria overgrowth that
can clog pores, while softening and hydrating irritated skin at the same time.
It also works to solve deeper issues causing breakouts, like hormonal
imbalances and an unhealthy balance of bacteria within the gut. Here are
several ways to improve skin health using castor oil For a natural acne
treatment thats beneficial long term, dap castor oil onto the affected area
with a clean cotton swab. You can also try to use apple cider vinegar and
essential oils like frankincense mixed with a small amount of pure coconut
oil. All of these options reduce redness and swelling of acne blemishes along
with scarring and pain. To prevent future breakouts, wash your face first in
warm water to open up the pores and then massage some of the oil into your
face and leave it on overnight, rinsing the next morning.

To hydrate skin without clogging pores: mix 1/4 cup of castor oil and 3/4 cup
virgin coconut oil (or 3/4 cup sesame oil), then apply to your body and face.

To moisturize skin thats normal or oily, try using 1/4 cup of castor oil with
jojoba oil, grape seed oil or olive oil instead of coconut and sesame. Gently
massage dry areas of your skin with the mixture, then dap off any excess
using a clean towel. Allow the treatment to soak in overnight and then rinse
well in the morning with warm water.

Another option is creating a fast-acting face mask using one teaspoon of

castor oil along with one egg yolk. Apply the mixture to your face for 1015
minutes, then clean your face.

To soothe sunburn, castors oils anti-inflammatory properties reduce pain and

redness. Apply castor oil mixed with coconut oil (in proportion 1:1) to the
affected area, or try the same remedy as a natural lip balm to solve chapped
or sun-burnt lips.

Something else to consider is that castor oil and ricinoleic acid can enhance
the transdermal penetration of other chemicals, so its a good idea to only
use castor oil along with other natural ingredients that you dont mind fully
absorbing into your skin.

7. Reduces Toenail or Fingernail Fungus, Moles and Cysts

Castor works well as a toenail fungus treatment. For the same reason it helps
fight acne, castor oil can get rid of persistent fungal infections, moles and
cysts. Traditionally, the method used was to apply a small amount of castor
oil with a pinch of baking soda to the infected area. When ingested, castor oil
also works internally to balance gut bacteria and reduce lingering toxins,
yeast or molds that can cause fungus to develop in the first place.

8. RELIEVES CONSTIPATION
Castor oil works like a natural mild laxative when taken orally and helps with
straining during defecation and feeling of complete evacuation after a bowel
movement. Its active ingredient ricinoleic acid gets released in the intestine,
where it helps with the process of digestion, nutrient absorption and
cleansing the system helping you poop regularly. With better circulation
and lymphatic drainage, the small intestine become more efficient at fat
absorption and removing bad bacteria or toxins, which makes castor oil
perfect for natural constipation relief. The gut environment can become more
balanced in terms of having more good bacteria and less bad that
interfere with proper bowel movements. A healthier gut can lower
constipation, cramping, bloating (edema), leaky gut syndrome and possibly
other symptoms of IBS.

9. Lowers Symptoms of Arthritis

Castor oil is often used a natural treatment for arthritis pain, joint swelling
and inflammation. It has natural anti-inflammatory properties that make it
ideal massage oil that can be applied to aching joints, muscles or tissue. Try
massaging painful areas with castor oil followed by a hot water pack to
increase absorption and drainage. Practicing this process twice weekly can
give you the most pain-reducing results.

10. Helps Strong, Shiny Hair Grow Faster

Just like coconut oil benefits your hair, using castor oil can help your hair
grow faster, thicker, stronger, shinier and free of dandruff. Besides the fact
that castor oil has omega-6 fatty acids to make hair shine, it goes to the root
of the problem and improves circulation. Massage slightly warmed-up castor
oil into your hair and scalp, and it will improve the blood circulation to your
follicles, which speeds up hair growth. You can try making a homemade hair
mask by massaging the oil into your roots and spreading it all over your hair,
tying up your hair and covering it with a cap, then leaving the oil on
overnight before washing it out. Keep in mind that castor oil also has
antifungal and antibacterial properties that can help clear up dandruff and
scalp infections. Mix one tablespoon of castor oil with one tablespoon of olive
oil and add juice of half a lemon, apply the mask on the roots of your hair for
about 30 minutes, and then rinse out with shampoo.

Calluses and Corns

9. Calluses and Corns Castor oil applied directly to the affected areas can
help to relieve calluses that are caused by a number of things. You can also
massage a bit of castor oil into corns to help alleviate the pain and swelling
that they cause and ultimately make them disappear over time. This takes a
few applications but definitely works. If you have balding areas on your
scalp, or you just want thicker hair, you can massage a bit of castor oil into
the affected area for about 6 minutes every day to promote natural hair
growth. This also works on eyebrows so if you want thicker eyebrows, just
massage a few drops into your eyebrows for a couple of minutes every day.
Another hair benefit of castor oil is its ability to help prevent and repair split
ends. Just apply a few drops of the oil directly to the ends of your hair to
reduce the amount of breakage that you see. It helps to restore health to
your hair and will make it much less brittle so there is less breakage. Castor
oil can be used to remove unsightly warts and skin tags. You just have to
apply the oil to the wart or skin tag every day for a few weeks and you
should begin to see that mark disappear. Note that this will not work on
moles on the skin so make sure you know what you are trying to remove
before you begin using it.

RELIEVES MUSCLE SORENESS

Castor oil is considered warm oil that promotes the circulation of fluids in the
body. It is excellent as massage oil, and can relieve the soreness resulting
from overworking the muscles. If you have aching calf and thigh muscles
after vigorous exercise or active sports practice, apply a little castor oil on
the sore area and rub it in. Castor oil is good carrier oil for essential oils. Add
a few drops of Roman chamomile oil or peppermint oil to a tablespoon of
castor oil to make the massage more relaxing and healing. The analgesic and
anti-inflammatory properties of ricinoleic acid which constitutes almost 90%
of castor oil have been well documented. A major part of it comes from its
decongestant action on the lymphatic system. The lymph vessels that form a
wide network all over the body collect waste from the tissues and carry it to
the blood for elimination. Congestion in these vessels and accumulation of
toxic wastes is implicated in many autoimmune diseases like arthritis which
causes pain and inflammation in the joints. Castor oil eases up the
congestion and gets the lymph moving freely. It acts directly on the immune
system by stimulating the thymus gland and increasing the count of a type
of white blood cells called lymphocytes. What is amazing is that mere topical
use is found to bring about these internal changes. If you want to use
cayenne pepper for arthritic pain relief, castor oil is excellent for making a
potent mix for local application. Castor oil has a strong fungicidal property
thanks to undecylenic acid, which is a breakdown product of the ricinoleic
fatty acid abundant in the oil. It can be used to treat common fungal
diseases like ringworm, athletes foot and tinea cruris (crotch itch). It is as
effective as the azole drugs used to treat fungal infections, if not more, but
without any of the toxic effects of the antifungal drugs.

Heat some castor oil and allow it to cool until it is just warm to touch. Apply it
in the affected area just before bedtime and leave it on overnight. Repeat for
a week to see significant improvement. Continue the treatment until the
infection completely disappears.

PROMOTES HAIR GROWTH

Massaging just any part of the body with castor oil does not result in extra
hair growth, but applying it to the scalp does. The mechanism at work could
be the ability of this warm oil to improve circulation. Heat the oil until it is hot
to touch, and then allow it to cool for a bit. While it is still warm, apply the oil
to your scalp with your fingertips, massaging it in. If it is done every night,
you will see the difference in as little as two weeks. If you have scanty
eyebrows, the oil can be applied with the tip of a cotton ear bud to the
eyebrow ridge. Hair will grow denser there, and you can shape the eyebrows
as usual. Castor oil can be applied in areas that have lost hair due to
alopecia. The anti-inflammatory property of the oil may work against this
autoimmune disorder.

ENHANCES HAIR COLOR

Castor oil can be used to enhance the natural color of your hair and make it
look rich and thick. This oil is a humectant, locking in moisture. When applied
on the hair, it preserves the moisture in the hair shaft and makes each strand
thicker and darker. After washing your hair, towel dries it. Slightly warm one
tablespoon of castor oil and dip your fingers in it. Run the fingers through the
hair to get the oil on to as many strands as possible. If you have long hair,
divide it into sections and gently rub each section between your palms to
coat all the hair strands.

Castor Oil as a Preservative

The anti-fungal property of castor oil has been put to good use in the food
industry. Many dried grains and pulses are given a coating of the oil when
they have to be stored for a long time. Castor oil also seems to repel insect
pests that spoil them. A typical example is cowpea smeared with the oil. It
washes off when these dry foodstuffs are soaked in water and rinsed before
cooking. If youre hoarding survival foods for potential emergencies, you
have to protect them against spoilage by microbes as well as macro pests.
But you may not want to use chemical preservatives, especially if your focus
has been on stocking organic products. Using castor oil may be the best
option for you.

2. Treats dandruff and other scalp conditions

Amongst its many properties, castor oil also has anti-fungal and anti-
bacterial properties. Massaged into the scalp it will help to clear up dandruff
and other scalp conditions quickly and if you use it regularly, it will stop the
conditions from taking hold in the first place. If you have dry hair and
dandruff, try doing this hair mask: mix 1 tablespoon of castor oil with one
tablespoon of olive oil and add juice of half a lemon. If you have oily hair and
dandruff, then mix one tablespoon of each of these ingredients: castor oil,
honey and aloe vera gel, then add juice of half a lemon. Apply the mask on
the roots of your hair for about 30 minutes before shampooing and
conditioning your hair. This mask will not only help you get rid of dandruff,
but will also nourish and condition your hair, making it healthier and shinier.

Thickens hair

Castor oil contains omega-6 and omega-9 fatty acids, both of which are
useful for encouraging healthy hair growth. With regular use, castor oil will
encourage new growth and thicken existing strands to give you a beautiful
and shiny head of thicker hair.

Conditions hair

You dont need expensive, manufactured conditioners to condition your hair,

simply mix a couple of drops of castor oil with your leave-in conditioner and
apply evenly to your hair; your locks will become softer and healthier.
