Respected Sir,

Sub: Req. Sanction Seed Grant - Under TEQIP II - Reg.

I wish to do an Experimental Investigation on Design and Development of

Rotational ARC welding Machine and the study of its Parameters and Process Variables.
For this I have an idea and need financial support for constructing the model and conducting the
experiments. It is a new idea and will help me in enhancing the knowledge for the research work,
getting patent and also help the PG students for their project works. I have given the detail report
of the idea and experimentation in the enclosure. Hence I request you to sanction the seed grant
of Rupees Ninety Thousand only (`90,000/-) under TEQIP-II for making the model and
conducting experiments.

Thanking You Sir,

Enclosure: Yours Sincerely,

1. Estimation for making equipment.

CONCEPT

Welding is a process of joining of metals or non metals by causing coalescence. Rotational Arc
welding (RAW) is a type of welding, where an electric arc is struck between an electrode and the
base material to melt the metals at welding point, where the electrode is made to revolve about
its own axis. Both Direct current (DC) and Alternating current (AC) with consumable electrodes
are used. The welding region is usually protected by some type of shielding gas, vapour or slag.
It is similar to the conventional arc welding process but the electrode in RAW is made to revolve
about its own axis unlike in the conventional arc welding. The rotational movement of the
electrode is achieved by the use of auxiliary arrangements. In the present experiment
"ROTARC", a rotational Arc welding machine will be designed and developed. Tests will be
conducted to find the electrode consumption rate, speed of electrode travel and the different
mechanical properties of the weld bead. The process parameters like voltage, current, thickness
of the base metals, rotational speed of the electrode and type of the joints will also be tested.

MATERIAL NEEDED FOR BUILDING THE MODEL AND ESTIMATION:

The following materials are required for the construction of the model and an approximate cost
of Rupees Seventy Five Thousand ( 75000/-) is required for buying the material and Rupees
Fifteen Thousand ( 15000/-) is required for the labour charge.
