hroughout my experience as a jour-
nalist, Ive gotten to write many
different types of stories. From
sports game recaps to film reviews,
straight news articles to human interest
profiles, each has its own unique formats
and qualities, each a different writing expe-
rience.
But one writing experience has stuck
with me more than any other obituaries.
Although the circum-
stances that led to me
writing multiple obituar-
ies for a high school
newspaper are obviously
unfortunate, Ive learned
much from writing them.
At first, I was scared. I
was certain no one would
want to talk to me, that
