Nagios XI Installing Nagios XI Manually on Linux

Purpose
This document is intended to outline the steps required to manually install Nagios XI on a
Linux machine. Want installation help? We will do it for free.

Target Audience
This document is intended for use by Nagios Administrators who want to manually install Nagios XI on a Linux
machine.

Requirements for a successful installation


1. You will need a running CentOS or RedHat Enterprise Linux Box (version 6 or 7).
2. We recommend and will only support installing Nagios XI on a newly installed, clean system (a bare
minimal install with nothing else installed or configured).
3. Once installed, make sure you login as the root user (explained below).
4. You need to have an IP address associated with your machine.
5. Internet access is required for installation and upgrades. If your server does not have internet access you
will need to follow our offline procedure here.
6. Other Nagios products (Network Analyzer, Log Server and Fusion) should not co-exist on the same server.

1. Select your CentOS or Red Hat Linux kernel.


Hit enter.

2. Once your machine has booted up, you will need to


log in. Youll need to login as the root user, or another
user that has sudo rights.

Were logging in as root for this example.

3. Enter your password and press enter.

Note: For quick installation, use the command below.


Type the command:

curl https://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nagiosxi/install.sh | sh

Hit enter. If successful, it will fully install and you can


move to step 12. If it does not successfully install,
proceed to step 4.

4. Next you will change to the /tmp directory.


Type the command:

cd /tmp

Hit enter.

5. To download the latest stable release of


Nagios XI, you are going to type the following
command:

wget http://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nagiosxi/xi-latest.tar.gz

Hit enter.

6. It will begin to download.

7. To get started with the installation of Nagios


XI you must first expand the installation archive.
Type the command:

tar xzf xi-latest.tar.gz

Hit enter.

8. To get started, change to the newly created


nagiosxi subdirectory to get started with the
installation.

Type the command:

cd /tmp/nagiosxi

Hit enter.

9. Next you will run the full install.


Type the command:

./fullinstall

Hit enter.

10. The next message is simply confirming that


you are running a clean minimal install.

Type the letter: Y

Hit enter.

11. The full installation will begin. If installed


properly, you will see a message that says
Nagios XI Installation Complete!

12. Open up your preferred web browser. This is where


you would type in your specific IP address (found at the
end of your Nagios XI installation), and type it into the
search bar. Hit enter on your keyboard when done.

13. In the Nagios XI Installer you can configure your name,


email address, password and choose your time zone.
Once all of your changes have been made, click Install.

14. Congratulations! You have successfully installed


Nagios XI. Here youll see your login information. It will be
different than you see here, depending on the
configurations you made on the previous screen.

It is important that you know your username and password


intimately before clicking Login to Nagios XI. You will be
prompted to log in on the following page.

15. Here is the login page.

16. Insert your login credentials from the previous page into
the login box. The default language for Nagios XI is English.
If you speak another language, it will benefit you to choose
that language on this page as well.

Click Login.

17. In order to access the Nagios XI Dashboard, youll


have to read the license agreement and click Submit.

18. Thats it! You have successfully installed Nagios XI and


can begin monitoring. There are some great videos and
resources to help you get started on Nagios.com.
