1. Course title: General English 1

2. Number of credit: 3
- Duration: 75 periods (theory: 30 periods, practice + discussion: 45 periods)
3. Responsible for the work: Department of Foreign Languages
4. Course Description:
General English 1 belongs to general knowledge in university training programs, full
time, 4 years of Peoples Police University of Technology and Logistics.
The contents of the course include Unit 1 to Unit 6 of the coursebook titled New
Headway Pre-Intermediate (3rd edition), Oxford University Press. Grammar and sentence
patterns: review and improve the use of the basic tenses at A2 level, such as present simple,
present continuous, past simple, past continuous, future tenses, etc.; and sentence patterns
such as comparative sentences of adjectives, sentences used with quantity words, articles, etc.
Vocabulary: provide vocabulary related to the topics of the reading and practise basic reading
skills such as reading for main ideas, skimming and scanning, etc. The listening-speaking
section: practise situations related to daily life as well as topics of the lessons. Writing:
practise describing people, places, writing emails, postcards, etc.
Prerequisites: Students must have a certificate of English equivalent to A2 Level in
accordance with European Standard (CEFR).

5. Course goals: By the end of the course, students are expected to demonstrate their ability
to:
5.1. Language knowledge:

 + Phonetics: pronounce quite clearly English sounds although there is influence of
mother tongue and need to be explained more during studying.

+ Grammar: Consolidate and expand basic grammatical phenomena in A2 level; Use
basic sentence structures (fixed phrases, formula expressions, etc.) despite grammatical errors.

+ Vocabulary: Remember a certain vocabulary (about 300 words) on some common
topics such as daily life, peoples description, weather, feelings, country description, etc.

5.2. Language Skills:
- Reading skill:
+Understand short and simple texts related to daily life expressed by common daily
words.
