5) Your folder will be displayed at your left hand side of the interface. Click on your folder to view
the content. Make sure there are four layers (files) in your folder (Contour, DEM_raster,
Landslides, & lineament) (Figure 6).
Figure 6
6) To view those layers, drag them (or individually) to the main interface (Figure 7). For the first
task, you need to display your 'Contour' map on the screen.
Drag your file to

7) To view the properties (attribute) table of your map, you need to go to the toolbar options arrow,
click on the arrow and choose 'Table of Content' window (Figure 8).
Figure 8
8) The 'Table of Content' is designated automatically at the left hand side of your screen. To view it,

9) Now, right click on the 'contour' layer and select open attribute table (Figure 10).
Figure 10
10) The attribute table is where you can find the property for each individual contour line (e.g. length,
elevation). The elevation for each line is located at the far end (right) of the table. From the
attribute table, what is the contour interval? (Figure 11)
Figure 11
11) Close the table after you finish viewing the items.
12) To create a Digital Elevation Model (DEM). Locate the arctoolbox icon at the far right of the
interface (Figure 12).

14) A dialogue box will be displayed and make sure you create a new layer name in the 'Output TIN'
box. Put your new layer into your folder in the C drive STAG3062_Kump_A or 'B' folder
(Figure 14).
Figure 14
15) Enter the contour layer into the Input Feature Class (optional) box, and in the table below the
Input Feature Class (optional) box, click on the box below the 'height_field' column name and
select elevation. Press OK (Figure 15). The DEM will be displayed (Figrue 16).

Task 2 (Creating a Slope Angle Map)
1) To create a slope map, you need to convert your DEM layer to Raster. To do this, go to 3D
analystConversionFrom TINTIN to Raster (Figure 20)
FIgure 20
2) Enter DEM into the Input TIN box and name your layer as DEM_Raster (remember to
always put your file into your folder in C dive). For Sampling Distance (Optional) select
CELLSIZE and change the number to 20 (the value of the contour interval). Press OK (Figure
21).

5) To classify your slope angle map, right click on your slope angle layer in the Table of Content
window and select PropertiesSymbologyClassify (Figure 25 and 26)

6) In the Classification category, you can change the type of classification to different techniques.
But for this lesson, change the number of 'Classes' to 5. This action will automatically change the
Method of classification to 'Manual'. Numbered your classes to 10, 20, 30, 40, 64 in the 'Break
Values' box. Press OK (Figure 27).
