Disaster Preparedness/ Management List

BEFORE A SUPER TYPHOON AND/ OR VERY HEAVY CONTINUOS RAIN:

1. Fully charge your cell phones.
2. Have emergency numbers (161, etc.) on your cell phones.
3. Store batteries ready for radios and flashlights.
4. Store candles enough for three days.
5. Secure all important documents in plastic envelopes or containers at high places.
6. Store canned goods for two days for emergency already packed in a small plastic or bag.
7. Store towels, clothes, toiletries etc. enough for two days in a small traveling bag.
8. If you have babies, always have a baby bag with all the needs ready.
Make sure the emergency bags are light, easy to carry and as much as possible waterproof.

DURING THE TYPHOON AND/ OR HEAVY CONTINUOS RAINS:

1. Point persons for the village AHAI Board and Officers (whoever are on site); lead volunteers
near the creek (if none, officer can assign suggested are Edward Tuprio; Markus Locker; Cody
Rabe; Ely Pan; Art Panganiban; Leo Bernardino: etc.)
2. Point person/s plus one guard to monitor the river immediately.
3. Once the water reaches the bases of the houses (at the other side of us) beside the river and/or the
second level of our wall and rains are still very heavy and continuous., the guard and at
least two volunteers start informing people to prepare to evacuate. ONE LONG WHISTLE
PER 30 SECONDS.
4. When water reaches the third level just before hollow block portion of our wall and still
heavy continuous rains; all children and women are to evacuate to Salamanca St. and seek
shelter at the houses with 2nd floors (Martin, Barretto; Solemerin; Talay; Mallillin; Tabares;
Reyes; Hernando). This is the highest area in the village and can easily access our entrance.
TWO LONG WHISTLES PER 30 SECONDS.
5. Once the river overflows and water reaches the area of the Martins; all (including men) are
either to evacuate (MAKING SURE POWER IN THEIR HOUSES HAVE BEEN SHUT
DOWN FIRST) to the parish or stay in the second floor level of the houses near the
entrance. THREE LONG WHISTLES PER 30 SECONDS.
6. The shuttle service is authorized to be used as emergency vehicle during these times if
available. The key is usually left at the guard.
7. Those with radios are to monitor developments 24/7.

Personal lives are the utmost priority during these times and not material ones.

AFTER THE TYPHOON AND/ OR HEAVY CONTINOUS RAINS:

1. Emergency meeting right away of the officers and volunteers available to form committees (a)
head counting; (b) security; (c) food; (d) relief goods; (e) clearing and cleaning; etc.
2. We hope ALL will maintain positive and calm attitude (despite any human and/ or material losses
that may be incurred) and volunteer instead of blaming, asking for priority, and/ or spreading
rumors. Again, lives are of utmost priority.

Once we have all settled down, I would suggest we start donating old clothes/ shoes (still very useful),
food, etc. to our nearby urban poor areas, particularly the people beside the river.

MARAMING SALAMAT! (We will write specific persons and organizations who helped us later.)
