My name is Reid Hutchins and I am currently a Senior (second semester) at The University of North
Carolina at Charlotte, pursuing a bachelors degree, double majoring in Environmental Studies and
Geography. Throughout my time at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte I have continuously
heard of the company, Family Dollar and while I delved deeper into my studies I became really
interested in the topic of GIS and how it is used to help companies generate studies on progressing their
business ventures. I am amazed that the ever-changing world of geographic information systems (GIS)
allows people to visualize and interpret data to understand relationships, patterns, and trends with data
and mapping. I feel as if I would be best suited for the job of a GIS Analysis for Family Dollar because
of my proficiency in ArcGIS for Desktop and ArcGIS Online, along with a proficiency in planning.

I have made the Chancellors list for spring semester 2016, and Deans list for Spring 2017, and strive to
meet that goal again. I try to stay up to date on my chosen field of study and I feel as if I would be a
very good fit with the company due to my willingness to collaborate with others to solve problems while
working with a team. I would use the vast amount of resources available at Family Dollar to further my
knowledge of GIS. Through my scouting career, (Eagle Scout 2012), I have learned to appreciate the
world and its global perspective. I first expressed an interest in geography in 2011 when I travelled to
Albuquerque, New Mexico with my Boy Scout Troop to go on a backpacking trip for fourteen days.
When on the trail, our crew had some difficulty deciphering the map we were trying to follow. While
looking at the map it all started falling into place as I began to understand spatial relationships better
than ever, and my interest of mapping and the how the world works around me really took off. I have
excellent social skills and would be able to foster personal relationships with co-workers, and clients.
My problem-solving skills would allow me to help complete the tasks at hand in a quick and efficient
manner.

I would love for the opportunity to garnish great on the job experience while working as the GIS Analyst
for Family Dollar. Family Dollar is a very impressive company and I believe that I would be a stellar
addition to the team. My experiences, skills, and strong interests in the goals of the company have
prepared me as a strong candidate for a position with your company. I would appreciate the opportunity
to meet with you to discuss how my qualifications would be beneficial to Family Dollars success.
Thank you for your consideration and I will call soon to follow up my application.

Best Regards,
