IMPORTANT NOTES
for 2016 KGSP-Associate Degree Scholars

1. Preparations for entering Korea

Entry Period : Thursday, February 18 ~ Friday, February 19, 2016

Entry Visa : You need to apply for a visa at the Korean diplomatic missions or
Korean Embassy ; You MUST obtain a visa before coming to Korea.

Type of visas: If you are a scholar who will take a preparatory Korean language
course, apply for a D-4 visa.

Itinerary and Air-ticket

As for an air-ticket, NIIED will purchase it once we receive your information


from the University. It will be sent to your email address as an e-ticket. Please
check your email regularly, including the spam mailbox.

You must complete the form 2016 KGSP-U Entry Information for Flight, and
submit it to NIIED at lmhlucy@korea.kr, no later than Tuesday, January 19.

If your flight route has a layover in another country, you must check the visa
requirements of that country. It is your responsibility to obtain a transit visa and
to cover the incurring fees.

NIIED does not compensate any travel expenses incurred within your country.

Airfare will not be provided to the person who has been staying in Korea as of the
date of announcement on the final result, which is January 15, 2016.

NIIED does not compensate any fees for the travel insurance.
In case you purchase the flight ticket on your own, you must submit your flight
ticket and its receipt to the Korean language Institute for the reimbursement.
Entry support

At the airport, you will be greeted by the staff of your Korean language institute.
S/he will take you to your language institute.

If you start your degree program without the language program, you will be
picked up by the staff of your university.

As soon as you arrive in Korea, you are kindly asked to follow their
instructions.

It is strongly advised that you bring your invitation letter with you in case the
airport immigration officer requests you show the letter.

Registration

After arriving at the Korean language institute, you should register as a


KGSP scholar.

Where: at you Korean language institute or your university

When: within 2 days of your arrival

Required documents: 3 color photographs (4cm5cm), a copy of your


passport
2. Accommodation

During the Korean language program : You will stay at the dormitory of the Korean
language institute.

During the degree program : You will either stay at the university dormitory or find an
off-campus housing if you choose to do so.

Any and all fees or expenses incurred when using the accommodation is the scholars
responsibility. You will receive the monthly stipend of 800,000 KRW.

3. Korean language course

Period : March 1, 2016 ~ February 28, 2017

Korean Language Institute : NIIED assigns each KGSP scholar to a selected language
institute. (Please refer to your invitation letter.) Please note that you CANNOT change
the language institution.

NIIED considers the scholars nationality and their Korean language abilities when
assigning the language institutes.

Please note:

You must take the Test Of Proficiency In Korean (TOPIK) before the end of the
Korean language program.

In case you fail to achieve the Level 3 on TOPIK during your 1-year language
program, you will not be allowed to start your degree program. Instead you must
take an additional 6-month Korean course at your language institute.

4. Associate degree course

Period : March 1, 2017 ~ February 28, 2019

The scholar who has the Level 5 on TOPIK may start his/her associate degree
program in the 2016 spring semester.

The scholar who will pass level 5 in TOPIK in the first half of this year may
proceed to his/her associate degree program in the 2016 fall semester.
Prior to the arrival, grantees are strongly recommended to learn about the Korean
climate, customs, culture, and language as a preparation to study in Korea.

5. Other information

There will be a medical check-up, including the doping and AIDS tests, during the
NIIED orientation (February 24 through 26). If a serious health problem is detected
by a doctor, the grantee MUST promptly return to his/her country. In this case, the
grantee is responsible to cover the flight ticket to return home.

In case you make a decision to forfeit the scholarship, make sure to notify the
NIIED including the reasons of your decision, via the Korean Embassy in your
country.
