Backup Server in ACN MR Node Installation

Guide

1.1 Introduction
This document describes the installation and configuration of the Backup Server (BU) in the
ACN MR node. It is assumed that the person installing the Backup Server has basic know-
ledge on how to:
D perform basic Backup Server configuration (XdSysUsed, _sys, _grp)
D operate with files in the Windows environment
D establish a remote connection for the ACN MR node.
The Backup Server running in the ACN MR node serves only the application servers which
are running in the same node. This so called Standalone usage means that the node can
boot up without any connections to the outside world.
It is recommended that the Backup Servers name (LID) in the ACN MR environment fol-
lows the name of the Process Control Server, e.g.
<bus Id>PB<server Index>
e.g. APB1 for the Backup Server with AP01.
NOTE!
This document contains examples of file contents and file names. In those examples there
may be file names with version numbers. The version numbers were valid when this docu-
ment was written but may be out of date when the document is read. So the examples provide
principles which have to be adapted to the current situation. The same applies to node identi-
fication examples.

1.2 Requirements
Software of version Valmet DNA Controls 14.1 or later is required.

1.3 Before Installation

The ACN MR node uses a SD card as a mass storage device. The SD card that is used in the
node running the Backup Server, has to be formatted for Standalone usage. If the SD card
has not been properly formatted, please refer to the SW Installation and Maintenance
chapter in the ACN MR documentation for information how to prepare the SD card for the
Standalone mode. That document also describes how to work correctly with SecureDigit-
al cards in the Windows environment. Please read the document, if there are any doubts about
the working procedures.
The SD card has been formatted for the Standalone usage, if the card contains more than one
partition as shown in the picture below.

Check the SD card using the Windows Disk Management utility.

1.4 Installation Procedure

The installation and configuration procedure consists of several steps. All steps are carried
out in the Engineering Server.

1 Install operating system packages and application server files from the installation
media to the Engineering Server.

2 Edit the configuration files.

3 Copy the files to the SD card.

4 Edit boot loader configuration file.

Before proceeding with the installation, please check that the SD card can be accessed from
the PC (by default the Engineering Server) where the installation and configuration is carried
out.

1.4.1 Install application server files

Install the application server files (executable programs, shared libraries, configuration tem-
plates,...) in the Engineering Server from the Valmet DNA Software Installation Center, fea-
ture Valmet DNA Controls and Connectivity for ACNRT and SR1 nodes.

The default target locations for the files are:

D D:\dna\Data\CA\DNA14.1\metsoACN_RT\CODES (referred to as CODES
folder)
D D:\dna\Data\CA\DNA14.1\metsoACN_RT\TEMPLATES (referred to as
TEMPLATES folder)
D D:\dna\Data\CA\DNA14.1\metsoACN_RTOS (referred to as OS folder)

1.4.2 Edit the configuration files

Before editing the configuration files, copy the template files to the sysconf folder, e.g.
\dna\data\sysconf\APB1 :
D from the CODES folder, select file @dna_acn_codes and copy it to the sy-
sconf\APB1 folder.
D from the TEMPLATES folder, select files APB0_14.1_grp, APB0_14.1_sys,
XdSysUsed and xxxx_bu_StandAlone_MR.sys and copy them to the sysconf\APB1
folder.
Once the files have been copied, rename the files according to the Backup Server to be in-
stalled, e.g.
APB0_14.1_grp => APB1_14.1_grp
APB0_14.1_sys => APB1_14.1_sys
xxxx_bu_StandAlone_MR.sys => 161.sys
After renaming, edit the _grp and _sys files according to your application networks needs.
Edit also the XdSysUsed file.

1.4.3 Nodespecific configuration

The node specific configuration consists of two files: the Program Starters configuration
file xxxx.sys and hardware specific configuration file xxxx.hw.

The Program Starters configuration file e.g. 161.sys was created in the previous chapter. The
hardware specific configuration file is generated using a tool called Slot Configurator. In-
stall Slot Configurator from the Valmet DNA Software Installation Center.

1 Open the Program Starters configuration file with the Slot Configurators
File>Open command.

2 Point the Global Settings object and edit the nodes IP address by doubleclicking
the XD_IP_ADDR line.

3 Point the Slot 15 object and edit the Backup Servers slot TITLE and
XD_FILE_POSTMAP2 by doubleclicking the corresponding lines. Replace
APB0 with the correct backup server name.

4 Open the HW Configuration Wizard by pointing the Node object and selecting
HW Wizard from the popup menu.

5 Fill in the Backup Servers name (LID), check the IP addresses and make sure that
the Standalone SD type has been selected.
6 Generate the hardware specific and IP address configuration files by clicking the
Generate button.
7 Save the .sys file and the workspace (e.g. APB1.wks) before exiting the Slot Config-
urator.

1.4.4 Copy the files to the SD card

From the sysconf\APB1 folder copy the following files to the SD card:
@dna_acn_codes
APB1_14.1_grp
APB1_14.1_sys
XdSysUsed
161.sys
161.hw

1.5 Working with Files

This chapter explains how the files are located in the SD card. The readers who have been
working with the Backup Server in the older environments (VME/Windows) will find out
that the files managed by the Backup Server are located somewhat differently in the ACN
MR environment.

The SD card used in the Standalone mode is divided into two partitions:
D The primary partition of type FAT32 contains the nodes configuration files, some
operating system packages and all the files managed by the Backup Server, except
for the application databases. This partition is visible to the Windows PC.
D The secondary partition of type ext3 contains only the application databases (e.g.
AP01_db) managed by this particular Backup Server. There is also a special folder
called sysfiles that actually is a link to the primary partition. This partition is not
visible to the Windows PC.

1.5.1 File locations

When the Backup Server is running, it can be managed using the Backup Server Manager.

The following picture shows the Backup Server Managers BU Explorer window where
the contents of the Backup Servers disk root (the partition of type ext3) can be seen.

The application database will appear in the disk root when it is moved using the Download to
operation from the Engineering Server.

The disk root contains also a special folder called sysfiles. It is a symbolic link to the
primary partition.

The following picture shows the Backup Server Managers BU Explorer window where
the contents of the sysfiles are displayed.

The sysfiles folder contains nodes configuration files, some operating system packages
and all the files managed by the Backup Server, except for the application databases.

1.5.2 Special folders

The primary partition contains two predefined folders, Transfer and Storage.

The Transfer folder is used in distributing the application database to the environment that
has no engineering environment (Engineering Server). Copy the application database file,
e.g. AP01_db, to the Transfer folder. When the Backup Server in the ACN MR node starts,
the application database is moved (the original file will be deleted after successful operation)
from the Transfer folder to the Backup Servers disk (=secondary partition).

The Storage folder is created for the user as a storage that can be utilized to store files that are
not currently needed but worth saving, e.g. AP01_db.
