Centripetal Force is any motion in a curved path represents accelerated

motion, and requires a force directed toward the center of curvature of the
path. This force is called the centripetal force which means "center seeking"
force. The force has the magnitude of:

Fc=mv2
r

Rotational speed measures the change in the angle per unit time of rotating
objects.
=2 where: = rotational speed
T =3.1426
T= period in seconds

Frequency is the number of complete rotation or revolution per unit time.

f=1 where: f=frequency

T T= time

Tangential speed can be calculated by:

v=r where: v= tangential speed

r= radius
= rotational speed
Answer the following:

1. What is the centripetal force of a roller coaster whose speed is 35.4 m/sec rounding
of a curve with a diameter of 525 m and the roller coasters mass is 7650 kg?

2. The wheel of a machine rotates at the rate of 20 times 45 sec. If the diameter of the
wheel is 90 cm, Find the following: a) what is the rotational speed of the wheel b)
frequency of the revolution c) tangential speed

Power is the rate at which work is performed or energy is converted.

P=W P = Fv P = Fd cos W = m (vf2 vI2)
t t 2
where: P = power m = mass
W = work (joules) vf = final velocity
t = time (seconds) vi = initial velocity

Answer the following:

1. A 58 kg person is running and accelerates from 6.0 m/s to 8.0 m/s in 30 s. How
much power does that require?

2. A man uses 125 N to push a cabinet to the other side of the house with a constant
velocity of 2.5 m/sec. What is the power output?

3. Jacky has just arrived at the airport and is dragging her suitcase to the luggage
check in the desk. She pulls off a strap with a force of 150 N at an angle of 30 and
6 m to the horizontal in 20 sec. Determine the power done by Jacky on the suitcase.

Wedge- it is used to push the two objects apart.
Wheel and axle- the axle turns when you put force on the wheel.
Pulley- it is made up of wheel and rope.
Screw- it is an inclined planed that winds around itself.

Doppler Effects in Sound

When the sound source moves toward a stationary observer at a certain speed.

= s (/ - s)

If the source is moving away from the listener, the velocity of the source is
positive. Frequency of the sound heard by the listener will be less than the
frequency of the sound waves.

= s (/ + s)

When the listener approaches a stationary source, the velocity of the listener is
positive.

= s ( + 1)

If the listener is moving away from the stationary source, the velocity of the
listener is negative.

= s ( - 1)

Where: = frequency of sound heard by the listener

s = frequency of the sound waves
= velocity of the sound waves
s = velocity of the source
Answer the following:

1. The hoofer of an approaching taxi has a frequency of 600 Hz. If the taxi is travelling at
35 m/s and the speed of sound is 360 m/s, calculate the frequency of sound that you hear
when a) the taxi is approaching you. b) the taxi passed you and is driving away.

2. What is the frequency heard by a person driving at 25m/s toward a blowing factory
whistle of 750 Hz if the velocity of sound is 345 m/s?
