"CORBEL" --- CONCRETE CORBEL ANALYSIS

Program Description:

"CORBEL" is a spreadsheet program written in MS-Excel for the purpose of analysis of a concrete corbel
or bracket supporting a loading plate per ACI 318-05. Specifically, embeded plates subjected shear and
tensile loads.

Program Environment: Microsoft Office Excel 2003

Creation Date: 23-Oct-08

Design References: 1. ACI 318-05, Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete

This program is a workbook consisting of two (2) worksheets, described as follows:

CORBEL Concrete Corbel Analysis

Version 1.1 - Added Development Length and changed minor errors.

Program Assumptions and Limitations:

1. This spreadsheet program is intended to analyze and design the capacity of a reinforced corbel.
2. This program assumes that the corbel and wall are poured monolithically.
3. This program assumes that stirrups are closed or tied.
4. It is assumed the bearing area on the bracket or corbel shall not project beyond the straight portion of the
primary tension reinforcement, nor project beyond the interior face of the transverse bar. (ACI 11.9.7)
5. This program contains numerous comment boxes which contain a wide variety of information including
explanations of input or output items, equations used, data tables, etc. (Note: presence of a comment box
is denoted by a red triangle in the upper right-hand corner of a cell. Merely move the mouse pointer to the
desired cell to view the contents of that particular "comment box".)

Program Theory and Operation: The top left of the spreadsheet screen allows for input of required
information in lightly yellow highlighted boxes. Information required includes the following:

Input:
1. Factored Shear load on corbel, VU.
2. Factored Tensile load, NU.
3. Concrete Strength, f c'.
4. Reinforcement Yield Stress, fy.
5. Thickness of the wall, bwall.
6. Eccentricity, a, of which the load is applied\ from the face of the wall.
7. Effective depth, d, of the corbel.
8. Overall depth, h, of the corbel.
9. Embed Plate thickness, Hplate.
10. Edge depth, hc.
11. Size of the Primary Tension Reinforcement, As (# size).
12. Number of Primary Tension Reinforcement per unit width, n As.
13. Size of the stirrups, Ah (# size).
14. Number of Stirrups, nH.
15. Concrete Type: Normal weight, sand lightweight, all lightweight.
16. Seismic Risk?
17. Ratio of Steel provided to required, As, prov/As, req'd.
18. Side Cover to Face of Bar, sc.
19. Clear Cover to Bar Hook, hc.
20. Epoxy Coated Bars?
