Given:
In this homework you are given two problems one for a pressure buildup test in a bounded reservoir
following long-term production, the other for a pressure falloff test following a very long injection period.
Though neither the production nor injection times are given for either case (these are unknown), both cases
can be analyzed using the concepts for pressure buildup test analysis.
Required:
z You are to estimate the following using the appropriate Cartesian, semilog, and log-log analysis
techniques:
The formation permeability, k.
The dimensionless wellbore storage coefficient, CD.
The near well skin factor, s.
The average reservoir pressure, p , (Muskat-Arps plot).
z Be sure to provide multiple analysis results when possible (e.g., estimates of permeability from both
semilog and log-log (type curve) analysis.

Given:
The data for this example are taken from Doublet, et al.,1 for a pressure buildup test run in 1988. Well NRU 3510 is
located in a carbonate reservoir of low to moderate permeability in the North Robertson (Clear Fork) Unit (NRU),
in the Permian Basin of West Texas. The well was drilled in 1963 and was completed in the Lower, Middle, and
Upper Clear Fork zones (all of which are considered productive).
The Lower Clear Fork was hydraulically fractured in a single treatment, and the Middle and Upper Clear Fork were
stimulated in a separate treatment. The well had produced approximately 226 MSTB as of July 1989, when it was
converted into a water injection well. The pertinent reservoir and fluid properties are given below
Reservoir properties:
=0.06 rw=0.31 ft ct=37.0x10-6 psia-1 h=150 ft
Oil properties:
Bo=1.18 RB/STB o=2.2 cp
Production parameters:
pwf(t=0)=111.9 psia qo=8 STB/D tp=unknown

Required:
z Using the attached plots, you are to perform a complete analysis of these data, and, in particular, provide
estimates of the following parameters:
a. The formation permeability, k.
b. The dimensionless wellbore storage coefficient, CD.
c. The near well skin factor, s.
d. The average reservoir pressure, p , (Muskat-Arps plot).
z You are also to verify/calculate properties using the specialized plots which are provided.
