CHECK LIST : CENTIFUGAL PROCESS PUMPS

A) Drawings / Documents:
1. GA Drgs
2. CS Drgs
3. Data Sheet
4. QAP
5. Purchase Spec. / PR/ Technical Spec
6. PROPOSAL CHARATERISTIS OF THE PUMP (pl refer approved data sheet of the pump)
7. Special Requirement of Contract if any.

B) Applicable Standards : List the applicable standards for

a) Pumps b) Materials, c) vibration, d) sound level, e) Acceptance Tolerances

b) Material Check of major components w.r.t to the application i.e. process fluid
Castings, Stuffing Box, Diffusers, Impeller, Shaft, Shaft Sleeve, Impeller Nut, Wearing Rings,
Counter Flanges, Gaskets, Bolts, Nut,
Hydrogen Service, Sour Gas (SR Chart, Hardness Check)
In case of SS material PMI, & IGC test,
NDT : UT, DP, MPI, RT (forging, castings)
In case of welded components: WPS PQR, WPQT Records.

c) INPROCESS STAGE INSPECTION

1.0 Hydro test of Pressure Parts

Casing Maximum allowable Design Pressure, Working Pressure; TEST PRESSURE.
Water Chloride Content should be less than 25 PPM/ as per the applicable specification.
Selection of gauges of appropriate RANGE
As a thumb Rule the operating range should be above 33% and less than 66% of the full scale of
the gauge.
Calibration of Gauges : Valid TC, Or calibration can be checked with facilities available with the
vender (Dead weight Tester)
Engineer to ensure that During Hydrostatic test the components under test is free to expand in all
the directions i.e. the pump/ valves should not be tested under jack pressure / Under Hydraulic
Press (it can be verified by dial gauge during hydro test)
2.0 Dynamic Balancing of Impellers (Rotor Assembly with coupling half key)
Balancing of Rotor assembly preferably at rated RPM however dynamic balance of rotor can be
accepted at lower RPM but engineer must ensure that the residual unbalance limit at rated rpm is
well within the acceptable limit in each plane.
Rotor Clearance check
Rotor Run out check (test may be applicable for multistage pumps),

3.0 NDT on machine Components as applicable

Shaft, Shaft Sleeve, Bushes, Impeller.

4.0 Performance Test

Verify with data sheet NPSHR & NPSHA,
If the difference between NPSHA & NPSHR is one meter or less NPSH Test shall be carried out &
witnessed.
If the pump is with Mechanical Seal, Verify Seal Type, Cooling Plan, Flushing plan as per API 610 /
approved drgs. Hydro test of Mech. Seal piping is done by vendor review TC.
Verify the test bed lay out erection of pump set.
Instruments to be used: Verify the range and the accuracy class is as per the applicable spec.
Verify Calibration certificates of all instruments
Verify tapping on suction and delivery lines for measurement of suction & discharge pressures
are taken correctly i.e. the distance of tapping point from upstream & downstream of pump
nozzle are as per the applicable standard.
Power measurement shall be by two watt meter method
In case shop motor is used Engineer to ensure that the motor loading at duty is more than 40% of
its rated load.
If the pump to be tested at reduced RPM, vender has taken approval from the client. (Generally
vendors take approval of testing the pumps at reduced RPM with shop motor at the time of
quotation)
Pumps to be tested with water/ OIL
Performance test shall be carried out from shut off head to full open, at least 6 readings shall be
taken to cover complete performance characteristics of the pump i.e. duty point, one reading on
either side of duty Point (this will cover the operating range), minimum flow, shut off head, and
full open (maximum flow)
During the performance test sound level, vibrations, bearing temperature shall be recorded in
addition to the readings of all other instruments i.e. for head, flow, power, RPM etc.
All the data logged shall be converted to the rated RPM. The parameters should be within the
acceptable tolerances as per the applicable code. (API, HIS, IS etc)
Nature of curves to be compared with the proposal curves and

E) Dismantle Inspection to find out excessive wear if any.

F) Final Inspection with all the accessories mounted on the base plate
G) Painting Inspection as per scope, paint shade, Coating Thickness etc.
