The question paper would be a mix of essay type questions and pairs of short
notes. You would be expected to answer 2 questions in the 1 hour TEST for a total
of 30 marks. You would be expected to write about 400-500 words in each essay and
illustrate it with 3-4 sketches. A short note of about 150-200 words should be illustrated
with 2 sketches.

ESSAYS
Differentiate between the basic principles governing the Hindu and Muslim places
of worship. Explain how this differentiation lead to completely different set of
building designs in each case.
Using key buildings in the Quwat ul Islam mosque complex trace the journey of the
development of the arcuated style of construction during the early years of the
Delhi Sultanate.
Write an essay on the contribution of Firuz Shah Tughlaq to the development of
Indo-Islamic building typologies in North India.
Write a detailed illustrated essay on the tomb complex of Sher Shah Suri at
Sasaram.
Only with the help of sketches create a labelled storyboard illustrating the

 Indo-Islamic architecture saw much development between the 12th and 16th
