Chapter I

THE RESEARCH PROBLEM

This chapter includes introduction, statement of the problem, hypotheses,

significance of the study, scopes and limitations of study and definition of terms.

Introduction

The definition of LGBT includes lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender. This

term used since 1990's. Lesbian is a female homosexual. The term lesbian is also used to

express sexual identity or sexual behavior. Gay is a male homosexual. They attracted

with other man. Bisexual means the attraction to genders similar to your own gender

different than your own. Transgender term that are used to describe people who dont

conform to the traditional division of male and female. This distinction have been made

in the context of political action in which LGBT goals such as same sex marriage and

human rights.

And because of the increasing number of LGBT members in the Philippines,

many LGBT supporters founded LGBT Groups and Organizations to stand and speak for

their rights. Also it serves as an instrument to LGBT community that as being

discriminated as an individual. Here are some groups in the Philippines that support the

LGBT:

There are some advantages and disadvantages on LGBT Community, one big

advantage is having more privacy because from now on, many people will judge you on

your personal outlook and they will judge you even they dont really know who you are

and when your not afraid to express yourself in the world. You can do anything what you

want to do, like having more fun with your friends, going in the club every night, no

threat of having unwanted children and etc. And from now on, may LGBT release their

personality and they are not afraid to be judge by many people. Many parents accept their

child as an LGBT and they are happy because they see their child happy being a LGBT.

We all know that this world is full of judgemental persons. Being a LGBT member is a

choice. A choice that may change their lives. There comes the time that people will judge

them for being a gay or lesbian. That is the disadvantage of being one. In school, many

LGBT members experience bullying in school. Discrimination to be exact. Whenever

they go, whatever they do, some people may judge no matter what.

Many students are not agree with the LGBT community because God created man

and woman to spread the joy, love and to have their own families. If you are one of them

their will be no family like having a son or daughter who will take care when your old.

But we dont know how LGBT members feel inside because its not good how we treat

LGBT members. But the main question is, how will be their life if they don't have their

family?
Statement of the Problem

This study aimed to find out the advantages and disadvantages of being an LGBT

member according to AMACC-Lipa students.

Specifically it tried to answer the following questions:

1.) Does being an LGBT member can lead into bullying?

2.) Can orientation or seminars in the students about the gender equality will be

helpful to know more about the LGBT community in school?

3.) How can LGBT members can show their freedom as an individual?

Hypotheses

1.) Being an LGBT member is somehow can lead in bullying, some LGBT are not

accepted in our society but it depends on how an LGBT member act, so they will

be treated well.

2.) Orientation or Seminars with the students about the gender equality are helpful to

know more about the LGBT community in school.

3.) School must accept LGBT on how they dress to show respect and also it will

show how the school implemented the Gender Equality Policy.

Significance of the Study

The result of this study would be beneficial for the students, parents, schools, and

LGBT students.

First, to the students, it would be beneficial for the students, for them to realized what

an LGBT member feels when theyre being judged.

 Second, to the parents, it will be the way to accept their children, on what they

want to be.

Third, to the schools, it will helped the schools in giving freedom to the LGBT

students.

Lastly, to the LGBT students, it will helped the LGBT members for them to

expressed themselves without fear and hesitation.

Scope and Limitation

This study focused on the Pros and Cons of being an LGBT member according to

AMACCLipa Students. The respondents are Senior High School students of

AMACCLipa. The researcher used self structured questionnaire to know the Pros and

Cons of being an LGBT member.

Definition of Terms

LGBT means lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender.

Gay man is attracted to man.

Lesbian woman is attracted to woman.

Transgender is a term that are used to describe people who dont conform to the

traditional division of male and female.

Bisexuality is a romantic attraction, sexual attraction, or sexual behaviour toward both

females and males, or romantic or sexual attraction to people of any sex or gender

identity.
Queer is an umbrella term for sexual and gender minorities heterosexual or not

cisgender.
