Do you find yourself forgetting
things lately? Ever walk into a room
and cant remember what you came
there for?
Have difficulty finding where you
parked your car in the mall parking
lot?
Thought maybe you might be
experiencing the beginning stages
of Alzheimers disease?
Everyone experiences forgetful-
ness. It is a temporary condition
that usually can be resolved. Some
factors that contribute to forgetful-
ness are stress, fatigue, depres-
sion, nutrition deficiencies, and
drug overdoses or interactions.
Other more normal factors that may
cause forgetfulness include distrac-
tions, preoccupation, multi-tasking,
and acting on auto-pilot.
Normal memory loss is referred
to as age-associated memory
impairment, or benign memory loss
due to aging. It does not affect our
social or intellectual functioning.
Memory loss that disrupts every-
day life is not part of the normal
aging process.
It is a symptom of dementia, a
gradual and progressive decline in
memory, thinking and reasoning
skills. Early symptoms of
Alzheimers disease often include
recent memory loss which may
cause difficulty in performing famil-
iar tasks such as handling the
checkbook or preparing meals, diffi-
culty learning new tasks, loss of a
sense of time and problems with
language.
Before a diagnosis is made,
other conditions must be excluded,
some of which are potentially
reversible. Do not assume that you
or someone you love has
Alzheimers disease. Instead, pur-
sue a thorough evaluation, involving
physical, neurological, psychologi-
cal and psychiatric examinations
and laboratory studies which
should yield a fairly accurate diagno-
sis.

option in future (thus indicating
what timeline were on) and what
are your primary goals?
Sometimes the goal is to stay
home as long as possible while
others will say that they want to be
prepared for the costs of round
the clock care in a facility. Still
anothers goal may be to protect
every dollar from the nursing
home while preserving it for his or
her heirs.
Every person is different, so
every long-term care plan is differ-
ent. To do this we conduct a thor-
ough review of the clients assets
and family situation. Based on
that information, we provide

tions, pressure sores and falls.
One would think that nursing
homes would attempt to alleviate
this health care hazard by attract-
ing more nurses through better
pay and benefits, but that is not
always the case. As an attorney
who handles nursing home neg-

we analyze how they could be
affected if one needs extensive
care while the other does not.
