STUDENT-CENTERED ENGAGED LEARNING RUBRIC
Student centered and self-directed learning is new for many students. This rubric will be used to help guide students and encourage student engagement and
enhanced learning. Below is a rubric to help the student self-evaluate and the teacher to evaluate the students progress with this learning method. A score will
be entered into Veracross at each Check-In, but only the final rubric grade will be calculated into the Q4 grade.
CATEGORY EXEMPLARY (3 pts.)
Planning/Goal Setting Students is able & willing to independently set
goals for the completion of the learning activities
and adjust as necessary
Growth Student is able to approach a learning activity with
a growth mindset (not yet!), positivity, and

confidence. Uses positive language and encourages

Collaboration Student consistently works collaboratively with

but improvements are needed in thoroughness and

DEVELOPING (1 pt.)
Student needs guidance in creating learning
goals and weekly/daily plans to accomplish the
learning objectives
Student rarely brings confidence and positivity
to learning activities, speak negatively about
herself or others, and demonstrates a fixed
mindset
Student rarely works with classmates or the
teacher, does not ask for help, and rarely
interacts with classmates.
Student relies on frequent redirection to focus
and is unable to focus on a learning task even
with guidance.
Students self-monitoring strategies, during
learning, require guidance and isnt able to
monitor efforts during learning
Student has trouble self-evaluating (reflecting)
without on-going guidance and/or makes no
effort to self-evaluate their own learning

not have documentation of some or all work

the required time. Coordinate with the teacher
