Application Guidelines Eligibility requirements

Application categories
For acceptances purposes, the fairs concept distinguishes four categories of applications:

1. Participation: 1st 3rd year (approx. 25 30 booths):

new galleries, generally not older than 5 years at the time of first participation
with an international gallery program
with mainly young, contemporary artists in the gallery program (mainly under 40)
with a fair presentation of young relatively unknown artists under 40

2. Participation: 4 years or four years plus (approx. 10 15 booths) or have already presented at another
art fair in Basel:
with an international gallery program
with mainly young, contemporary artists in the gallery program (mainly under 40)
with fair presentation of young relatively unknown artists under 40

3. Galleries that are 8 years or older (approx. 10 15 booths):

with an international gallery program
with young, contemporary artists in the gallery program (mainly under 40)
with a fair presentation of young relatively unknown artists under 40

4. Presentation with artists under and over 40 (approx. 10 15 booths):

mainly galleries of the middle generation
with an international gallery program
with mainly young, contemporary artists in the gallery program (mainly under 40)
with a fair presentation of young relatively unknown artists over 40 who are not or scarcely
represented at Art Basel.

Participation in art fairs running concurrently with LISTE disqualifies a gallery for participation in
LISTE - Art Fair Basel.

Application material
1. Application form:
The following qualify for application
participation: 1st 3rd year
participation: 4 years or more or have already presented at another art fair
gallery that are 8 years or older
Presentation with artists under and over 40 years old

2. Application file:
Please check off below that you have included all documents, which must be submitted in a reasonably
sized dossier:

First year applicants/galleries:

Completed application form. The application form must be filled out digitally
Registration fee receipt: CHF 250. registration fee per gallery
Short biographies by all artists represented by the gallery (including dates of birth)

 Complete gallery program: visual documentation (high quality color prints) of all artists represented
by the gallery, minimum 4 images per artist for practical reasons, the jury would prefer print-out
documents (no digital material). (N.B: Websites will not be considered)
Clearly defined and documented project for booth presentation at the fair
booths sketch (if possible)

Galleries that have previously participated in LISTE:

Galleries that have previously participated in LISTE must include pictures and biographies only for
those artists whom they wish to present at LISTE. Also please complete the form: Changes in gallery
program since last year
Completed Application Form. The application form must be filled out digitally
Registration fee receipt: CHF 250. registration fee per gallery (
Brief biography (incl. list of exhibitions) of each artist who is expected/will be shown at LISTE (with
year of birth), including visual documentation (color print, high quality) of suggested artists, at least 4
images per artist; for practical reasons, the jury prefers good quality color prints (not slides or CDs).
Please note: The jury cannot consider websites in the selection process.

Important:
Important Galleries may apply to LISTE with multiple project proposals (group- and/or solo show) or in
different categories. The registration fee applies to multiple proposals.

Important Please label all visual documents complete (title, year, medium, artists name).

We would appreciate it if you would summarize your application materials as briefly and concisely
as possible. In the case of incomplete documentation, missing pictures or unpaid application fees, the
LISTE committee reserves the right to refuse consideration of the application.

Deadline for submission: All application materials must be submitted no later than Wednesday,
December 14, 2016 (postmark), to: LISTE - Art Fair Basel, Burgweg 15, CH-4058 Basel.
Please note that we do not accept digital application!

Selection Committee
Criteria for assessment and selection (fair concept) for new galleries:
For newly admitted galleries, the first criterion involves the gallery program, age of the gallery and age
of the artists. The second criterion focuses on the project submitted for fair presentation.

Criteria for assessment and selection (fair concept) for galleries that have previously participated:
First criterion focuses on the project submitted for fair presentation and the second involves the gallery
program and age of the artists.

Other general criteria for new and galleries that have previously participated:
Artists under 40 in gallery program
Previous presentations at LISTE or other international art fairs
Gallery activities
Collaboration on behalf of artists represented by gallery with museums, art galleries and
comparable institutions and collections

Selection Criteria
All decisions regarding acceptance are made by the selection committee, which consists of
independent curators, museum people and the fair management. They select participants according to
criteria which are qualitative and in line with the fairs concept (please see application categories)
Applicants will be informed of the LISTE committees decision by email by end of February 2017. The
committee is not required to justify its decisions to the applicants.

Decision
LISTEs success is due mainly to its clear and rigorous fair concept and the strong effort the fair invests
in presenting artists who are not represented at Art Basel. A jury of experts selects the most
outstanding and promising international galleries from over 350 applicants. Both the jury and the fairs
management attach great importance to the gallerys selection of artists and the concept of the
presentation for the fair! LISTE involves primarily young, often not well-known artists who are being
introduced to a large expert public in Basel. In order to provide visitors with new artistic positions, the
selection committee places great emphasis on presentations of two to three artists per gallery.
The selection of a high number of solo presentations supports the pursuit of this goal.
Since LISTEs founding 22 years ago, the fair has consistently responded to new tendencies in the
gallery scene and art market and has continually made conceptual changes. Thus, starting two years
ago, LISTE made it possible for galleries with an older artistic position (preferably together with a young
position) to apply.

Shipping and Customs Costs

The costs for mailing or shipping application materials will be covered by the applicant. If shipping
materials from outside Switzerland, we recommend that you clearly indicate on the customs form: no
commercial value. Packages which include customs fees to be paid on delivery will not be accepted!

Conditions
We view our fair as a venue for promoting emerging art and galleries of a middle generation. Fair
participation costs are partially financed by our main partner, Bank E. Gutzwiller & Cie Basel.
We keep the booth price for new galleries as low as possible.

Participation Fees and Payment Instalments

Entire payment of participation fees can be transferred 10 days after receipt of participation
confirmation. We also offer galleries the option of paying said fees in instalments. The instalment plan
will indicate all dates of payment and instalment rates, both of which are binding. Foreign galleries can,
under specific conditions, have taxes reimbursed. You will receive more detailed information after your

Important: 2/3 of the cost of participation must be paid until March 28, 2017. The full cost of
participation (instalments) must be paid before the fair begins. In all other cases, the fairs management
reserves the right to refuse the gallery entrance to the fair.

Participation 1st year at LISTE:

Solo presentation: CHF 6 800. , 8% VAT: CHF 544.; Total: CHF 7 344.
Group presentations: CHF 7 800. , 8% VAT: CHF 624.; Total: CHF 8 424.

Participation 2nd year at LISTE (with no prior participation in other fairs in Basel):
Solo presentation: CHF 7 800. , 8% VAT: CHF 624.; Total: CHF 8 424.
Group presentations: CHF 8 800. , 8% VAT: CHF 704.; Total: CHF 9 504.

Solo presentation: CHF 8 800., 8% VAT: CHF 704.; Total: CHF 9 504.
Group presentations: CHF 9 800., 8% VAT: CHF 784.; Total: CHF 10 584.

Participation 4 years or four years plus:

Solo presentation
or Group presentation: CHF: 12 000., 8% VAT: CHF 960.; Total: CHF 12 960.

Gallery that are 8 years or older:

Solo presentation: CHF 13 000. , 8% VAT: CHF 1 040.; Total: CHF 14 040.
Group presentation: CHF 14 500., 8% VAT: CHF 1 160.; Total: CHF 15 660.

Presentation with artists under and over 40 years old:

Group presentation: CHF 16 000., 8% VAT: CHF 1 280.; Total CHF 17 280.

Services
Participation in LISTE guarantees galleries the following services:
Rental of exhibition space of approx. 25 30m2, including lighting, partition walls, booth labeling,
booth cleaning, one table and two chairs
free access to Wi-Fi
Entire fair organization and administration including special shows, tours, etc.
Public and press relations provided by organizer
Comprehensive services for exhibitor and visitors
Invitation with fair pass for collectors, museum people (international)
Catalogue with texts and pictures about the artists
Specific entry on our homepage and link to gallerys homepage
Assistance in securing private accommodations at reasonable conditions
Ads in over 85 of the most important international art magazines, with a total circulation of over
1.5 million and appearances in more than 10 online art magazines
Informational brochures, stickers, posters, world format posters in the city of Basel
Welcome Desks at the airport and train station in cooperation with Basel Tourism and Art Basel
Complimentary tickets for your collectors and their artists (limited)
Sale of materials and rental during set-up (at very reasonable rates)

Application Fee
An application fee will be assessed for each gallery. The application fee of CHF 250. must be paid per
gallery and not per project proposal. Please note the following options for payment of the registration
fee:
cash including your application materials.
by wire transfer. Please attach the confirmation of the transfer to the application.
