ACM Avaya Communication Manager; latest name for software; see ACP

ACP Avaya Call Processing; Definity call processing ported to a rack mountable solution and running over a LINUX
operating system instead of the proprietary Definity OS.; now referred to as MultiVantage

AEEA, AEA Avaya Efficient Encryption Algorithm, a proprietary algorithm adapted from RC4 to support RTP packet transport.
It is very efficient and consumes about 2% of available processing power

AES Advanced Encryption Standard; 128 block cipher algorithm used by Avaya on its control channels; its efficiency
rating is about 25% of processing power

AIM Avaya Integrated Management; new name for VisAbility network management suite for ACM on a data network

AIW Avaya Installation Wizard; available for some Linux-based servers

Anywhere Allows IP SoftPhone users to use any Windows application to initiate a phone call

CCMS Channel Control Message Set; Avaya proprietary protocol supporting communicaiton between circuit packs and

CESoIP Circuit Emulation Service Over IP; to be intorudced with later versiions of Crossfire

Chum Channel User Manager; part of the core of MV software used to support ISDN and IP trunking; internal use only

CIDR Classless InterDomain Routing, pronounced cider. Another way of handling IP addresses that yields better
utilization of the 32 bit addresses

CLI Command Line Itnerface; normal mode of interaction in Unix-based systems from an SAT

CLAN Circuit pack where TCP/IP conversions are done for Definity platforms, signaling for IP endpoints, and downloads
of firmware are managed

CM Communication Manager; Avaya call processing software and associated product bundles

COGS Cost of Goods Sold; marker to identify embedded costs of hardware and frmware in a system

Console Shortened name for Network Management Console; Avayas net mgmt suite of products, formerly MSNM

COTS Commercial Off The Shelf; usually applies to availability of Pentium server systems

CPO Converged enterprise solutions Profile Offering; new name for releases of software, firmware, and hardware
coordinated across platforms

FEP Front End Processors; circuit packs that assist MV in delivering specialized services to distribute the load. Packs
included are CLAN, Prowler, IPSI, G700 gateway.

FQDN Fully Qaulified Domain Name; in personabc@avaya.com the avaya.com is fully qualified because public
routers and email servers are able to find it, whereas personabc@dr is not fully qualified for external use

FTP File Transfer Protocol; standard application layer function in TCP/IP; used by Avaya for remote access, upgrades,
etc.

G600 New name for IP600 rack mountable cabinet when it is used in S8700 IP Connect

G350 Marketing name for the Boxster gateway; scaled down version of G700 gateway;

G650 Enhanced Rack Mount Cabinet; Improved version of G600 with new power supplies and 14 slots

G700 Name for Chawk cabinet; can hold 4 media modules to customize endpoint services; is Aavayas IP PBX; 19 Rack
mountable; also called Media Gateway

GAM Global Alarm Manager; part of Linux-based server platform maintenance subsystem

GBE Giga Bit Ethernet

GMM Global maintenance manager;

Guitar Internal reference to the Cajun Switchs architecture that has 4 GPS ports

H.323 International umbrella standard that defines, among other things, how data endpoints can support multimedia
traffic, such as voice; protocols required are specified.

H.248 International standard for how gateways can pass stimulus-based traffic information to a gateway controller
(MultiVantage in our case)

module may be installed as an LSP, the only distinction being the licensing files

IPSI IP Switch Interface; a circuit pack similar in function to the EI but for an IP switch fabric

LDAP Lightweight Directory Access Protocol;

LicSvr License Server; runs on MV Linux-based servers as a service under Linux. It has a file and serial numbers used to
validate use of MV as the application loads

Linux Unix-based operating system writeen originally by Linus Torvalds of Finland; base operating system for new
MultiVantage platforms

Log Manager Application associated with IP SoftPhone to enable examination and editing of call records

LSP Local Survivable Processor; brings MultiVantage to a distributed platform in a special version of ICC that can keep
the remote gateway up running MultiVantage if the ECC goes down or cannot be contacted

MCM MV Configuration Manager; part of AIM

MFPM MV Fault and Performance Manager; part of AIM

MG Media Gateway; specific standards term, also an Avaya generic term of different meaning

MGC Media Gateway Controller; H.248 terminology

MGP Media Gateway Processor; integral hardware/firmware part of G700 cabinet system

MIB Management Information Base; a database-like collection of variables maintained by devices in a data network
which can be queeried using SNMP-compliant applications.

ML MultiLayer; used to describe data switches that are capable of cell, frame, or datagram switching activities
depending on the Layer of the OSI model where the packet resides

MM Media Module; funtionality of Definity circuit packs in card form for horizontal placement in rack mountable
solution G700 box

MMM Media Module Manager; provides arch angel functionality in G700 deployments

MSNM MultiService Network Management; formerly known as Cajun View. Mgmt suite for the data products, now part of
AIM; now known as Network Management Console

MultiVantage Name for Avaya Communication Manager, aka Definity software, plus all the associated hardware and

QoS Quality of Service; generic term that refers to guaranteed levels of service for specific traffic types. QoS can be
obtained using various protocols, such as IEEE802.1p.D and Q, TOS field in IP header when redefined as
Differentiated Services; RSVP as specified in Integrated Services. QoS parameters can be administered in ACM in
endpoints and in the system, but they rely on QoS being implemented in the data network

RFA Remote Feature Activation; permits the TSO or Avaya to remotely update features on customer systems and update
their license files

RMON Remote MONitor; part of a network management system enabling control and status of a device from afar

SCP Secure CoPy; part of SSH used by Avaya that replaces use of FTP, which is not secure

SCSI Small Computer Serial Interface; connector typed used between 2 S8700s for DUPINT function

SeS Secure eServices; connectivity between the customer equipment and Avaya Service Centers (TSO) and INADS

SFP Small Form-Factor, Pluggable. A specification for a new generation of modular transceivers. The devices are
designed for use with small form factor (SFF) connectors, and offer high speed and physical compactness. They are
hot-swappable.
SME Server Maintenance Engine; part of linux-based server platform maintenance

SMON Swith MONitor; part of AIM network management system specifically for data switches, that is an extension to
RMON

SNMP Simple Network Management Protocol; IETF standard for querying info from managed devices. The Manager
