ABSTRACT: Life safety is very important in older ages This project comprises a door control
system manually using face recognition and GSM technology to identify faces through a door camera
in a more efficient and accurate way. If any visitor will come at door step and try to press doorbell
switch. As the bell rings, the system is in active mode and captures the image. Furthermore, face
detection and face recognition algorithms as well as a wireless interface are used to recognize the
visitor. After recognizing the face, image is sent to the mobile via GSM module. The entire control
system is built using Intel Atom chip with effective use of OpenCV library and tested for actual use
in door phone environments. This system provides up to 99% security since it is manually controlled.

INTRODUCTION

The use of door rel ated security has been increasing along with the advent of security-related
electronics, such as digital door locks, advanced video conversation devices, and wireless home
security networks. In general, a fixed camera next to the door was used to identify visitors using an
LCD monitor situated in the house at a fixed location. In this case, if a visitors face is located
outside the camera frame, it is impossible to recognize the person visually. Thus, the visitor has to
be requested to move to the frame of view. This is not only inconvenient for the visitor and it can
be uncomfortable for the home owner as well.

If there was an efficient way to capture the image and send to the owner cell phone so that I can
manually control the door. An interesting way proposed for large screen TVs is used two different
types of cameras to accurately track the movements of viewers eyes. A wide angle camera is used
to detect the face and two narrow angle cameras mounted on motorized positioners tracked each
eye using the information provided by the wide angle camera. However, these two types of
cameras approach would be too costly for a door phone system. For door phone systems,
there is one other way that can be utilized. As the bell is pressed, camera captures the image and
detect the face of the human beings. Further face recognition algorithm is done and recognition
data is carry forward to the home owner mobile device so that home owner can also know that
which person is entering inside the home. And also we are controlling the door from cell phone so
by this way we can provide maximum security who is residing in the home. We can take care of
parents in older age without any hassle. This system provide double means two step security so
that we can rely on easily. First stage verification is automatically but second stage is manually
controlled.

RELATED WORK

In this field there are so many approaches has developed which is used for security purposes. In
general, we are fixing the camera next to the door so that we can track the person movement easily
and we can display it through the LCD monitor [1]. The researchers have presented a design of a
high cost smart security camera system using four camera in which two are wide angle camera and
rest of the two narrow angle camera and also it is required large TV screen [2]. For intrusive
biometric identification, visitors fingerprint and RFID tag will be used [3]. Face detection and
Face recognition system should be high accuracy rates so that sytem become high efficiency.
Another cost effective non-intrusive method [4] uses voice recognition to identify the the visitor.
But due to the noise robustness it also not much affective. Haar classifiers algorithms can be used
to detect human faces in image. Face detection method using haar classifiers is presented in [5].
Paul Viola and Michael Jone have introduced a method that accurately detect object using Haar
feature-based cascade classifiers [8].

Figure 1. System Block Diagram

Figure 1 shows the simple block diagram of the whole system. Intel Atom processor kit is the
processing unit of the system and is the central platform for image processing and signal alerting.
A camera captures the image by the camera and sent to the processor, after getting the image, with
the help of face detection and recognition algorithm the face is detected and recognized and it is
sent to the mobile using GSM Technology. From cell phone we are providing the signal to the
processor and control the door.

Face Detection and Recognition Scheme

For face detection Harr based face detection algorithms will be used and also we can use Eigen
face detection algorithm which is already available in OpenCV library. After detecting the face we
have to recognize it which is matched to the database or not. If it will match then send the image to
the cell phone otherwise sending blank image. In both the cases owner will know that some
visitors are waiting outside near the gate. If the face is matched then we can easily control the door

otherwise I can tell the person to register it in database and again same process will repeat. In all
the cases the code is written in c language which is effectively used of openCV library.

Cascaded stages of Feature Extraction

During feature extraction we are considering a no of features depending upon the function used for
recognition purpose. For each function one stage is defined. Figure3 shows that cascaded stages of
face recognition technique. First of all we are taking a detected image as a consideration.
According to the no of stages predefined functions has written for each stages as a different
functions. If any stage is failed the process stops and did not match the face. For recognizing the
face we must have to pass all the stages successfully or any other cases it will not work. First input
image is passed through the Stage 0 then correspondingly process will be continued and crosses all
the stages and giving correct faces.

GSM Technology system

With the help of GSM module we can send the image [7] [9] to the cell phone and also we can
control the door of the house.

CONCLUSION

It gives the better performance in real time with less cost and less power consumption. This system
uses for security purposes so it gives 99% of home security. Now a days its very difficult for the
older person to live alone in the home so its my responsibility to give higher security. And also it
is one type of manual door control system so we can assure of better security who is living inside
the home.
