IF YOU ARE ASKED ABOUT YOUR

IMMIGRATION STATUS

ANYWHERE

You do not have to give your documents unless they have

an order issued by a judge.
Ask if you are free to leave and if you are, state you do
not want to answer questions at that time.
Ask to speak with your lawyer.
Do not flee or resist arrest. Stay calm.

IF ICE COMES TO YOUR

HOME

Do not open doors. ICE cannot come in without a signed

warrant issued by a judge.
Politely ask to see a warrant and ask them to slip it under
the door.
Do not sign anything unless you speak with your
attorney.
Take notes of badge numbers, how many agents are
there, and any other details.
Dont lie about your situation.
If they are looking for someone else, ask them to leave
contact information. You do not have to tell them where
someone is, but do not lie.
If ICE is in your home already: ask them politely to leave
if they dont have a warrant and state you do not give
them permission to be in the home. If they search your
home, tell them you do not give them permission.

IF ICE IS ARRESTING
YOU

Tell them if you have medical issues or need childcare.

You have the right to remain silent and speak with a
lawyer.
Do not lie.
You do not have to give them consular documents or a
passport unless a warrant from a judge states you are
ordered to do so.

IF THE POLICE STOP YOU IN YOUR

CAR

Pull over immediately and remain in the car until the

officer approaches or tells you otherwise.
You may be asked to provide a drivers license,
registration, and/or insurance.
If the officer asks to search your car you can refuse.
However, if the officer suspects there is evidence of a
crime, they can search the car without your consent.
Both drivers and passengers can exercise their right to
remain silent.
The Passenger can ask if he/she is free to leave. If you
are free to leave, calmly and silently leave.
If you are arrested, continue to exercise your right to
remain silent and do not provide any documents or
information until you have spoken with a lawyer. The
government must provide a lawyer if you cannot
afford one in most cases.
