Dear Parents:

Welcome to a new school year! My name is Amy Parker; I am your students Advanced
Placement United States History teacher. Successful completion of this course will fulfill
the United States history graduation requirement. I believe American History is one of
the most important graduation requirements; it shows us who we are and helps us chart a
course for the future. This course is designed to provide a college-level experience and
preparation for the AP Exam. While the course may seem overwhelming, the goal is to
prepare students for the challenges awaiting them in a university setting and to develop
lifelong studies strategies.
The success of your student is important to me. Research shows that parental
involvement contributes to higher student achievement, so I hope you will support my
classroom efforts. In order to keep you informed, I post a quarterly class newsletter on
my teacher web site and use the Remind application. In addition, I maintain a teacher
web page with current assignments, study guides, useful links, and pictures of fun
activities. Today your student was given a class syllabus, course outline, and other useful
information. I encourage you to review this information with your child and contact me
directly with questions. Pay special attention to my classroom cell phone policy. Please
review the following information:

I. Grading Policy

to attend pretest study sessions. The dates and times for the study sessions will be
announced at the beginning of third nine weeks. Also, students should expect to
complete assignments over Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Spring Breaks.
