In this activity students will use WeMAP
application to organize thoughts and ideas with
classmates in real-time. WeMap app will be used
by students collaboratively to list characteristics
of hunter-gatherer societies during the Paleolithic
Era.
Teacher will review characteristics of hunter-
gatherer societies, including their use of tools and
fire. Teacher will also demonstrate how to
download and use the WeMap application in the
classroom.
Teacher will assign the WeMap application
activity for homework and will randomly assign
students into groups of five with a single group
leader.

On the RWT Timeline application, teacher will
demonstrate how to use the timeline app.
Students will begin by entering their first names and
choosing an avatar to create an account on a tablet.
Students will name their project (Ancient Rome),
which will appear on the timelines.
Students will then view examples of timelines
organized by date, time, and event, and then start
their own projects, beginning with a blank screen
with a dashed line across the middle.
Students will tap a dash to attach an event to it, and
then add a label, short description, and image. All
will appear on the timeline, along with a full
description that will be on the printout
accompanying the timeline. (Each timeline should
have at least 10 events sequenced chronologically)
Teacher will give suggestions and assist only when
needed.
Students will save their projects as a draft and open
it later to finish at home as homework. Students will
return to their work at home and make revisions.
Students will save, print out and/or e-mail final
drafts to teacher as a pdf.
Teacher will grade the final work and give feedback
via e-mail or on paper.
Each group member will access the application
either through personal Android, iPad, iPhone,
iPod Touch or through a school owned iPad.
Students will each download WeMAP app from

instructions on application to become familiar
with the app.
Each group leader will create a collaborative
session (with or without a password), and each
group member will join their assigned group and
contribute their own ideas.
Each group will create a single digital concept
map, add ovals, connecting lines, images and text
using a range of available colors. (Each group
should have at least 10 detailed characteristics)
Each group will save their WeMAP as a pdf, and
will share their final products with teacher via e-
mail.
Teacher will grade WeMAPs and provide
feedback via e-mail to each group.
