Prior knowledge of learners
In previous lessons students have developed a basic understanding of aspects present within medieval times. The have
specifically focused on the importance of knights within society. Students struggled to complete this set task in the following
lesson so today student understanding and class misconceptions will be addressed.
Lesson objective/s
By the end of this lesson, students should be able to:
Identify which punishments are used crimes in medieval times.
Evidence of learning
Students are to complete the selected tasks as individuals then in pairs. Once complete the educator will ask numerous
questions to identify what the students have learnt throughout the lesson and allow for the students to reflect upon what the y
now know. Students will participate in group and class discussions to identify key crimes and punishments identified in
medieval times.
Classroom Management Strategies:
Speak only when students are quiet and ready, address behaviour management issues quickly and wisely. By organising
students in to groups prior to the lesson aims to minimise distractions and prepares them before the lesson begins.

Use a range of verbal and non-verbal communication techniques (waiting and scanning, positive praise, eye contact and body
language)

White board, white board markers, internet, You Tube, Computer, OHP, mix and match handout, word search handout,
Medieval costumes.
Differentiation considerations:
Visual aids throughout this lesson will assist students who struggle with reading and writing.
Visual aids to encourage active participation.
Class consists of many kinaesthetic learners.
Class discussions to assist student understandings.
Utilise teacher aids to assist students when required.
Form paired groups with slow and fast learners to encourage peer teaching.
Utilise students literacy and numeracy profile to make required modifications.
Lesson Introduction When the educator arrives at the classroom before the students they will choose to write the

Lesson Body When the lesson begins, deliver a copy of the student handout activity to all students present.
Delivering the content I will begin to construct a recap discussion with students to identify their understanding from
through specific the previous lesson (following the previous lesson I have constructed a number of

Begin to discuss the various elements that will be conducted throughout todays lesson. This
provides students with the opportunity to establish a greater understand of t he tasks that they
will encounter and ask for direct assistance if required. This specific element provides me
with the opportunity to consider the content appropriateness to this group of students.

Activity 1 Educator will choose to select students at random to dress up as medieval


characters. Actively engages students whilst customises activities to suit their specific
learning needs.

This will establish a fun and engaging yet educational activity for the students to broaden their
knowledge of medieval times and the lives of those present.

Activity 2 Medieval punishment and crimes word search.

Begin to hand out the work sheet to the class, specific students in the classroom will be given a
simpler version of this task due to their individual learning requirements. Literacy components
have been modified to ensure that all students will be able to successfully complete the set task
and the class learning goal.

Reinforce the classroom expectations and identify the importance of completing class work
provided.

Give students 10-15 minutes to complete this task, some students may require assistance or extra
time to complete task, allow extra time for this if necessary

If behaviour issues arise worn students, if it occurs a second time the student will be move to an
allocated work area to complete the set task on their own without other student distractions.

Actively move around the classroom as students work and observe their pace of work
completion. Provide students with assistance if required (SEP students will most likely require
help)

Activity 3 Begin to demonstrate powerpoint presentation based on medieval times. (This


tasks has been modified to assist a number of visual, low literacy students in the classroom)
Classroom discussions will be held to ensure that all students establish a correct
understanding and misconceptions are addressed.

Students are required to record crimes and punishments in the books for fut ure reference.

Hand out mix and match activity to students, instruct them to work with the student next
to them to cut each section out, shuffle and then wait for instructions.

Students are to correctly link the crime, punishment and corresponding image together to finalise
todays lesson.

Evaluation / Reflection

Following the previous lesson I have chosen to take the opportunity to simplify selected tasks for students who possess low
literacy and numeracy skills. After viewing their individual profiles I established the understanding that my set lesson goals
and tasks were too complex for many present in the classroom. This specific reflection provided me with the opportunity to
make a number of adjustments in order to create tasks that the students could successfully complete and simultaneously
establish a greater understanding of the information that they have been provided with. The word search activity provided to
the students during this lesson has been customised to suit the learning needs of individuals present in order to assure that the
students are able to complete tasks that they can achieve without the fear of failing.

During todays lesson the students were very disruptive. This meant that a majority of todays tasks were unable to be
completed. For the following lesson I aim to incorporate a greater range of student praise rather than focusing on the
punishment of students for not completing their require work. Personally, I felt that I was unsuccessful throughout this lesson
due to student behaviours and lack of interest in the set tasks.
